My Humble Budget Tank

My tank is about 5-6 months old running chillerless...without a sump. :cry2:

Running on 2 canisters...Azoo venturi skimmer (6-7 years old that it has coralline algae growing in it) clipped on in the tank.

Lighting...3 normal white NEC FLs...1 actinic...will be upgrading to T5s soon. :eyebrow:

Water parameters : Did'nt really bother myself with them...but I feed very very frequently. pH, kH and calcium should be ok...I'm dosing kalkwasser and reef builder. Only thing uncertain is my nitrates. Have'nt bought a Salifert test kit yet.

Ok...here a few pics I took. Pardon my poor photography skills...my digital camera is 2 years old.

hey nice simple setup.... BTW the one beside your gonipora looks a little bleach or am i colour blind :ph34r:

Not bleached...that is the color in the first place.

Yellow goniopora...some tissue died off...as my tank was overgrown with algae during the first 1-2 months...and some algae smothered part of it...oh well..been with me for about 6 months already (inclusive of the time spent in my past marine tank)

Nice setup :). Like the way you match low light corals with your FLs. Might want to consider a sump and keep that Azoo out of sight though.

Yep..only when I upgrade my lights to T5 then i keep more light demanding ones. Some people might argue that goniopora is light demanding...but I have done some reading up and have found that they occur naturally in rather turbid water...that's what their long tentacles are for...to stretch to gain enough light. Oh well...will keep it to see how it goes..should have my T5s up in 2-3 weeks time anyway.

I've thought about a sump...but not possible... A canopy has limitations...not to mention that my TV is next to the tank..I can't risk salt spray.

Thought about the I-box too...but I have less than 2 inches behind my tank.

Thought about having 2 pumps..1 to pump water into sump..the other to pump it back...but can't stand the thought of either pump failing.

So for now I just accept my tank's fate as being sumpless. Oh well...think I will live with it for now.

I might be upgrading my Azoo to a weipro..but a weipro is bigger and looks more weird in my tank. Now my Azoo already fully encrusted with stuff. Think I shall just leave it be...after I get my T5s then see how.

Btw...my blue sea fan seems to have some brown stuff..like diatoms growing on it..is it harmful? My red sea fan has been in my tank longer than the blue one but has not experienced such problems. Now my blue sea fan seems to have some problems extending its polyps properly because of the brown diatom like stuff growing on it..what should i do? I tried shaking it gently upside down in the water but the brown diatom like stuff wun come off...

Thanks. :P I thought most people will freak out when I told them I am using normal FL lighting.

Anyway...aqua_reef>>>Those button polyps bought from Re**rn. Only $5. That's only half the colony...I broke off the other half and placed it somewhere else. :yeah:

Anyway...now saving up to DIY my T5s. Then can keep clams.

Btw...does anyone know if coralline algae in the skimmer column actually interferes with skimming efficiency? My skimmer is'nt really skimming anything out now....it used to skim out alot of stuff during the first 3 months of my tank...but now the skimmate always turns out watery. <_<
