Yellow Tang

I got a yellow tang last saturday, and up till now it has refused to eat all food! it'll only peck occasionally at the live rocks (which have no algae at all, except some coralline)..

I tried putting in pieces of boiled vegetables (lettuce, kangkong, caixin, kailan), herbivorous flake food (Formula 2), dried kelp (bought from supermarket, the type used to cook miso soup) even dried unprocessed seaweed (the type we use to cook soup) and it has refused to eat... Anyone has any ideas what i can try? I'm afraid it'll starve to death like that leh..

Try Mysis Shrimp bro. Or blood worm.

Mine is 2 weeks old and just started to

take blood worm and mysis. Hope this helps.

I'm not too sure about the yellow tangs , but i had much success of keeping tangs for the first few days or weeks on red bamboo algae. I've seen my tang , constantly grazing on them.

They will also eat cheato , if you're growing them in the sump.

The red bamboo algae can be bought frm reborn, theres alot of them there.

Getting the fish to feed on pellet will take some time, be patient.

From your post it sounds that the fish has nt been QT-ed ?

I didn't QT the YT, and i don't think the LFS which i bought it from did either..

Hmm guess it's worth a try... how much did you buy the red bamboo algae for? Do you have to replenish it every week? If so isn't it very expensive?

Hey bro..you can it get for $3 a rock of red bamboo algae

use it to get your YT feeding first b4 slowing trying to intro other food

Speaking of Henry's food, my blue tang is really addicted to it.. scared it won't eat other food once henry's food runs out..

Well, like it have been said a million times over, do check whether the fish is eating before comitting.

And do try grapes macroalgae too. Tangs love them.

I feed my fish with a variety of food - pellets, frozen brine shrimp. mysis, daphnia, seaweeds to make sure they are not "addicted" to any particular type. In addition to all those I also prepare my own fish food with fresh silver baitfish ( from either markets or supermarkets ready packed). I chopped them up fine and flatten them out neatly in plastic bags (about a quarter inch thick)and then freeze them up.

During feeding time, I would break or cut out sufficient amounts and thaw them and mix it with cyclopeezes, seaweeds, vitamin, garlic, etc (add some water if necessary). All my fish love it - tangs, anthias (dispar), damsels, angels. hawkfish, bannerfish & clowns.
