A/C fan best location.

Hi all,

Anyone can share with me which location is best to cool down my FOWLR tank with an A/C fan. I'm not quite sure are the pumps or the lighting that genetrate most of the heat ( 29.5 to 30 degree max) .

My tank has the following setup:

Main tank - 3 x 2 x 2

Sump - 2 x 1 x 1.5

Lighting - 4 x T5 ( 2 x blue and 2 x daylight HO) and working 8 hrs/day daily.

Internal Pump - 2 x 45 watts (Atman) in sump and 1 x 18 watts (Seio) in main tank and working 24/7

PS: Setup comes with cabinet with hood too and intend to put one A/C fan only as evaporation rate might be too high if multiple fans are used.

It is most of the time the lightings that generates the most heat. In context, the process of energy transfer from electric to light generates most heat and is by far most energy inefficient. (i.e energy loss by heat).

Pumps are in the other ways converted from electricity to kinentic energy via magnetism, generates less heat. Do not view as Wattage equivalent to heat.

If you can redirect the ballast to outside the tank, you make reduce the heat of your lights. but messy cabling.

Fan cool the water by evaporation. So it really just cooling the water, on top of your main tank will be better than sump. Reason is that if sump is conceal in a cabinet, the humidity will be high and rate of evaporation may be lower, thus not reducing the temp much.
