Keeping Lionfish

Hey,

was reading up the different post abt lion fishes. Currently i have a 2ft tank x1ft x 1ft tank. currently it have some buttons and mushroom corals in it. was thinking of converting it to fish only wif live-rock.

Do u guys think its viable for me to keep a small lion fish in this tank? currently it also houses a yellow-tail damsels and 2 true percular clown.

hope to learn more form all the bros out there cos this will be my first attempt to keep a lion fish if i do get one

unless you decide to give up your your damsel and clowns, I don't think it will be a good idea as your damsel and clowns will make a good meal for the lion.

Agree with dieran that the lionfish will prob have your percs and damsels as snacks. Unless you get a super small sized specimen that it....generally they are not mixed with fishes smaller than them.

icic cos i was thinking of housing a small lion fish in it like maybe at most 2 inch or less.

I guess for a 2 feet tank the most you can keep is either the dwarf lion or dwarf zebra lion, both commonly available in LFS. They grow to about 6 inches maximum yup

Would 2 feet be like risky for lion? You may get stung accidently when cleaning your tank.

i have already prepared my tank...

made a cave like thingy with my LR for my soon to be purchased lion...*roar*

but still, the thoughts of getting stung by it keeps popping up in my head...

Well if you be extra careful you wouldn't get stung. Just to let you know, when netting lionfish, they are able to leap about an inch or two out of the water! I've seen this myself and it was pretty scary cause my friend's hand was just nearby.

keep a bottle of vinegar handy, juz in case u kana kiss by your pet

can use that to treat.(dont need to pee on your hand!)

Of cause its better to seek proper medical attention.

Hmm, I'm not sure about vinegar, but I know that putting your hand in the hottest water you can stand helps. My teacher got stung before and he used that method. I'm not sure why it helps though, will ask him soon

i was at ah beng there...wow...lucky me...they have got quite alot of lions to choose from...

got fumanchu also!haha...

so i slowly observe and shortlisted 2 fellows... both volitans...but small size ones...

in the end got 1 which is more active.

Hey bro, that's not a volitans but an antennata. The "extensions" on the volitans are more "leafy".
