Out of Sump skimmer

hi guys,

i notice most of you reefers here who have very beautiful tanks use those in-sump skimmers which are very good (H&S, Deltec..etc), but i don't have a sump. so is there any good skimmer which can be used without a sump?

i having a 3ft(~40gl) tank and using a cheapo weipro 2011 hang-on skimmer now.

if i m not wrong, deltec can be used out of sum p as well.

1 fellow ex-SPS reefer use only Weipro 2011 for this 3' x 1.5' x 1.5' tank only. His NO3 is always 0.

So what's wrong with Weipro? Not skimming?

because i physically still see a lot of tang poos around.

and i feel that my water is not as clear as those i see in LFS.

does it got to do with a good skimmer?

not just skimmer quality involved. Cud be due to other prob: over-crowding, overfeeding, not enough flow (most likely)
