Bro Real, last time u mention tat maybe i shl start a nursery tank for the fries, nw i'm considering doing one. ? is, Will a 2ft tank be enough? the tank must be bare bottom or it will be better wif live sand? and i nid to cover up the top side and top of the tank black rite? i nid to setup one quick, cos during the weekends i witness 2 courtship in my tank! :yeah: Thanks! any advice would be very helpful! :D

I gotta feeling..Woo...hoo....That tonight's gonna be a good night.....That tonight's gonna be a good, good night!

cheer up bro chinmo :)

using substrate means it will be hard to siphon detritus, which in turns make it hard to control ammonia level. Nevertheless, my current nursery is using substrate, bcos I still like the idea of an ecosystem with bio-filtration, and bcos I am too lazy to do frequent water change :P. I have good pods growth in such system. The choice is yours, but note that my breeding record with this method is still no good.

it is a common practice to cover the top section of tank with black paper and provide light source near the bottom. But again I am not doing that, since I provide circular current in a round jar which prevents the fry from floating.

since you are short of time for an ecosystem to mature, I suggest you go for a simple bare bottom nursery with top section blacken. Remember to add hitching post as H.comes fry is able to hitch within a few days. Big tank size has pros and cons: pros is more stable water condition, and cons is food becomes not concentrated.

Hi Chinmo,

sorry to hear about the seahorse babies falling like flies. don't give up.

listen, these are some of the time markers for seahorse fly husbandry. hope this can help you.

day 2-3, lots of death, food supply insufficient

day 3-7, lots of death, food lacking in nutrition

day 7-14, death can be caused by poor filtration & parasite built up, poor waste management.

day 14-30, seahorse babies should gain in size & weight by now, single or multiple deaths, poor food distribution assuming the factors from day 7-14 taken care of.

if you clear the first month, good, you have more or less establish a feeding & care program.

the rest will be easy & other time markers will be the 2-3 month & 6 month.

btw, never put less than 60 babies in 100ltr of water.

go for bare tank system & watch the food quality.

happy seahorse keeping!
