  1. frm wat i know, Ocean rider do not export outsidethe US. there r lost of suppliers out there, its just if they can supply the CITIES cert for the seahorses. i think chris has some nice CB reidi as well, try contacting him if they r for sale. my regret that chinmo has stop the propagation, great job he had done. as for me, still learning & there is still so much to know.........
  2. Sorry bro, this specie is hard to get & most sources r unable to provide the CITIES certification if available. consider keeping juv captive bred reidis lah, put into a small tank & it sould remain small size for a very long time. We have seen several juvs, remaining rather small though they have past the the age to achieve average 'national' length. Kinda like the emperor seahorse size, cute fellas. Also these captive ones can show their colour faster and nice patterns. had a cross between kuda x reidi offspring several years back. Guess what, u do not a new speice, but some looking like kudas, others the reidis. also seems that the kuda complex could b found in the genes of reidis(according to some scientist). at this point of time, still reasearching other factors affecting their colour change other than the 'camouflage' theory. (All out of pocket expenses.)
  3. Hi, been asked many times what u feed, how, when etc....... just to share that i ve been breeding the seahorses for the past 9years and many times very close to shutting it down. I must honestly say its VERY TIME CONSUMING and A LOT OF EFFORT PLUS DELICATION required. To me -The challenge to having consistent results and to produce offsprings one generation after another. over the years, lots of data been recorded on their behaviour, feeding routines, courtship dance, how they swim in darkness, do they sleep? Are they monogamous etc,. So in brief, jst some points to anyone interested to raising seahorse fry which i strongly encourage.(hobby or commercial) 1) U MUST de-cap your artemia cysts 2) Try to use the small strain artemia to feed the frys.(i do not feed them roifers at all) 3) feed them every 2-3hrs interval.( i feed them first feed-4am, last feed-8pm) 4) Never ever drop all the artemia nauplii (like horse shit) into the nursery at one go. a snap shot of a loving couple to end off. frm the seahorse whisperer!
  4. Close up shot of the same brood. They r always a joy to look at.......
  5. latest pixs of local captive bred seahorses that will b available soon.
  6. Hi just to share the pixs of my 2wks old H. Reidi(lenght approx. 3/4 inch) Nice to b breeding seahorses again. Hope i don't break my back doing this. ha ha
  7. Heres the stinger. its interesting to note that each 'flower' can spread at the rate of 3-5cm per day if the conditions are suitable for their growth. Hope more study can be made to hydroids.
  8. Hi to all seahorse lovers and hobby breeders. Just some pixs to show the silent killer in the tanks that are harmful to seahorses and Nursery. I think most people tend to underestimate its potent harm. At magnification it look like the poppy flower with tentacles. Its spores can be found in seawater or pass on from un-decap artemia cysts.Hope this info helps.
  9. Thats right, we made them into strips from the red plastic bags. They work well with all our seahorses, its cheap, easy to use and if algae grows on them, replace with new ones anytime. The Seahorses love to hide in betwen them. Temp for the potbellys are 23-25 degrees. At abt 25, they are ok and u don't get much condensation on the tanks.
  10. And finally, they would show off their stuff to you!
  11. They are one of the most 'funny' specie of seahorse around in that they would puff up their pouch early in the morning or engaging in playful challenge. They literally puff their pouch into a 'ping pong' ball. And its always the boys who keep going at it! enjoy
  12. Hi Guys, Always fascinating to see the Australian potbelly seahorse playing and dancing once they get settled down.
  13. Hi Guys, Always fascinating to see the Australian potbelly seahorse playing and dancing once they get settled down.
  14. FYI, the AU H. Kudas are being kept at approx. 29-30 degrees temp though they were raised in cooler temp. The Potbelly(H. adodminalis) & the short snout or short headed(H. breviceps) are kept at approx.23-25 degrees. We won't recommend anything thing above 26 degress for the cold water seahorse species ststed above. In fact the brazilian seahorse(H. Reidi)that is ever so popular here in Singapore natural habitat is from 15-55m depth. Yet we know that this specie of seahorse is kept at room temp in Singapore. Text book information can be helpfull. Seriously, nothing's more sure than the hands on experience in keeping them. At the same time, a logical approach has to be made to balance the economy of maintaing them for our local situation. Its fine if we all can have the finances to provide the optimum needs for our pets(eg. chiller for the tropical species!)yet in reality it may not be so. We have done our trials and from time to time feedback is exchanged to various seahorse breeders(local & foreign). All efforts are made to ensure their well being here. Further to add, major benefits of Captive-bred seahorses is that they are easy to feed, adapt well to new environments, breed easily, environement friendly and disease free! Stop the seahorse killing by buying Wild caught!
  15. Hi decentkid, Just to point out. There are locally bred CB(captive bred)seahorses in Singapore, but not sold to the public yet for the time being. I am curious that there are still WC(wild caught) seahorses sold in Singapore by local LFS! Correct me if i am wrong.
  16. Hi, u do not 'enrich' the water with Phytoplankton as this will 'de-rich',pollute the water & decrease water quality, what u want to do is to enrich the zooplankton to feed the SH. If your SH is not feeding well. get to the source of the reason. Is it WC?(wild caught) Has it not been feeding the moment u got it?
  17. Hi, re: gas/air in pouch 1. use a plastic cable tie, smaller the better. use a scissor to cut the front tip into 2, keep one side but remove the other. Make sure tip not sharp,(you will know if its right when it hurts when u prick yourself). 2. Sterlise the tip with hydrogen peroxide or similar. Make sure hands are cleaned as well. 3. holding the SH with one hand, with cable tie the other, gently locate the ###### opening(below ###### fin). 4. All you want to do is to OPEN THE ###### OPENING WIDER, the left hand thumb at base of pouch to massage the pressure upwards. Never push nor poke the cable deep into the pouch. 5. U should see small bubbles being expelled. 6. Rememer to do this quick to minimise stress to the SH. Should be done in 3s. If not sure try first on a sponge. 7. U may have to repeats process several times to completely remove the bubbles. (usually unexpled air makes the SH float about). I do agree with the mention that what your Sh has is the effect of poor water quality, bacteria infection or too much air saturation of water. Only the males get it, the females don't.
  18. Hi Sorry for the large image. This should be it. Enjoy!

  21. Hi, 1.The reidi fries are abt 1-1.5inches. 2.Never had a problem with the little ones going to the surface. Never use shallow tanks. Tip* get the food right(type & qty) if u are serious abt raising Seahorse babies.
