Ammonia Test Kite Spoilt

Hi, is my Ammonia test kit (Salifert) spoilt as the reading is 0.25 when I test it on new mixed salt water. Should the reading be 0 for newly mixed salt water? Can any 1 advise?

ammonia should always be 0 !!

how old is the testkit?

maybe can borrow a friends testkit to compare?

test your own tank water, if the tank is cycled then you should see 0.

there can be ammonia for a variety of reasons

1. test kit spoil

2. container dirty

3. salt contains ammonia, what brand?

4. you using tap water? or DI unit or distilled water

I dun think the container is dirty as I normaly rinse it after use. The salt I'm using is Marine Environment and the water I'm using is filtered water, even if I use tap water, Ammonia should not be 0.25.

at wad condition did ur store ur testkits in?...

i store the test kite in an open environment, underneath my tank.

Thanks for all your comments. Actually there's nothing wrong with my test kit as I have confused about the color presented by it. I went down to Henry (ML) and got it tested with his tank water. The color is actually the same as the color I got. So now I understand that whitish milky color indicates 0 Ammonia. What I thought at first is that I must get a clear solution at the end of the test. Thanks a lot Henry for the help and clarification. Cheers.
