2. get rid of most of the filter cloth

3. First Buy!!! Skimz FR with Sorb4 and eheim pump

4. Re-doing the sump.....I~aquatic doing up the plans.

5. Lighting MH+T5 or T5 only? how many?

6. Chiller?

7. Wave maker

8. check valve on the return line to prevent sump overflow (great idea)

9. Refugium? Anything to replace it? a FR of some sort maybe?

to ans ur question on the refugium, its to reduce no3 with the growth of some algae.. :)

oh ok.......hmmm since my sump hasn't got alot of room, is there anything i can use to remove NO3? or is a refugium a must? what do i need for a refugium anyway?

Add a valve to the FR to control water flow b4 u run it. And i suggest u change ur atman skimmer too. Saw 1 b4, the joint for the bubble and collection cup is way too big. Sump can left it empty. Dun have to fill things as reddevils said look at the dirt trap. If it is empty, it will not trap much dirt. From the tank design i dun think a refuguim or DSB on ur sump works. Only can put medias but have to change frequently.

Ur Mh lighting is good. Just cut off the legs and make it lower. Add actinic blue light. T5 with ATI actinic will do the job.

Do a water change but dun remove the LR as bacteria is inside and u will have to restart if u mix salt and water in the tank. DO it out of ur tank. Those red coralline algae are nice to have.

Chiller 1hp is better for ur tank. 1/2hp it will overrun.

Bro I think that we should be thanking you for allowing us to share our knowledge with you and others alike. It has been sometime that SRC has seen such developing thread.

Regards.

Actually should be thanking all of you who contribuited to this thread. I think there are alot of advanced reefers in sgreefclub but not alot of hands on info for the novice or beginners. Most of the time its own research.....

So i hope this thread will help me with my own tank as well as the beginners who aren't so sure of the questions to ask....or sometimes afraid the questions are a bit too silly. So i hope i've posed some of these silly questions already.......

I'm a beginner when it comes to the marine tank........even more lost when it comes to the equipments and stuff avail......So a BIG THANK YOU to you all.....keep helping please........anything and everything is appreciated

Thanks KennethK.......

Is the control valve just to prevent overpressure thus blocking the outlet valve from the FR or just to adjust so that there is max efficiency on the phosphate remover?

Will try to source out a skimmer.....Still in the process of looking for one which fits and also preferable a external sump one......and recommendations?

Removing the coral chips and ceramic from the sump as we speak........

Shall i just leave filter cloth in there? Info on refugium noted....

Any other media that you can introduce for my sump?

Great news on the lights.....i was waiting for someone to tell me to keep the MH.......a load off the pockets...hahahah. Also in the process of looking for T5s

By water change.......wats the norm? replace wat percentage of the water?

Yeah like the coralline algae.....

Thanks again......appreciate your help

Water change 1/4. Valve is to control water flow so the phos will not go into ur main water if ur pump too strong.

Hi BroA320;

That is hell lots of algae on LRs...

Did you buy any PO4 Test kit to measure water? If the PO4 is high, it is recommended that you run the FR for 48hrs only and replace it. Otherwise, it will leech PO4 back to the water.

Cheers.

Equipment:

30G Corner Tank with 10G Sump, 2 x 24W artinic T5, 1 x 24W 10K, 1x 24W 20K, 3" Grade 0 sand & Live rocks, Activated Carbon, Bio-home, 2 x Seio M620, Hailea 1/2HP Chiller, Redsea Pro Skimmer

Live Stock:

Turbo Snail x 1, Green Mandarin Dragonet X 2, Blue Tang X 2, True percular x 2, 1 x Algae Bleenie, Clarke clown x 2

Reef:

1 x 2" Blue maxima, Red/Brown/Purple Mushroom (Discosoma), Pink Ricordea yuma, A little colony Brown/Green common Zoanthus, Red/Pink/Green US Zoanthus, Eagle-eye Zoathus, 14 Branch Goniopora Pandoraensis, 1 Starburst Polyps, 3 + 2 Branch Frogspawn, 4 Blasto, palythoa, Cheato

RIPs (Since June 2005):

1. Sabae clown (KO by Clarke clown) 2. 1 branch melted frogspawn 4 branch 3. Golden maxima (Ripe the base off rock by me) 4. Algae Bleenie x 2 (Starvation) 5. Blue Maxima x 1, 2 x Maxima, 1 x frogspawn, rics (Overtemp...)

Old 30G Corner Tank.

Restarted 30G Corner Tank.

yeah......thats my biggest problem...the algae. Seems to be on the window(sunlight) facing side only

Haven't done PO4 test recently.....

just finished cleaning most of the sump and did a water change. Will check the PO4 tomorrow.....

Unfortunately only ordered one SORB4 which came as a package with the SKIMZ FR......first time i'm using a FR so thought i better give it a try first. Will order more if it proves to work....fingers crossed. If i'm not mistaken. apparently this SORB4 won't leak the PO4 back to the system once its used up....might be mistaken though

Thanks for the suggestion.......keep'em coming

Cotton sponge. Those white colour which is replaceable. Dun buy those expensive type. For the sump empty is okie. At least that is a good way of clearing dirt and detrius when it is dirty. Put some chateo is good too.

Had the white cotton sponge on the overflow.........guess will go back to that.

Thats what i like to hear...."cheap ones"...thought i'd never hear that in this forum.....hehehe

Any idea where to get those attachments for the overflow edge to prevent fish food and curious livestock getting into the overflow?

err....wats chateo?

Cheato is a kind of macroalgae for neutrient export. You need lights for it. Any 6500K will do the job.

Anyway, dun seems like ur sump can be a refugium so LR and cheato in the middle compartment... Even tho I thing it is small area to work with...

1st and last compartent juz wool loh...

thanks.....will try to fit LR in the middle chamber.......not sure about the cheato.....don't think can get it readily here....

i thought filter wool not recommended cos it increases nitrate levels?

Was thinking of just putting the filter cloth in the overflow sump area.......

anything else for the sump? carbon? ??
