Lesson learnt to share

Recently, I face some serious problem with my tank. I added a box fish in my smaller sump as i use to hold my new fish in there. Due to old age, i had forgotten that i had a few damsels, a 7 inches French and clown fish inside. All the angels were doing very well. On Sunday morning i saw my box fish were dead with sign of being attack by those damsels. I started to realize my 7 inches French angel were very pale (almost to grayish white) surface gasping for air and rapid breathing. There were no sign of Velvet disease or white spot at all. Both main tank fishes remain brilliant and actively. I notice that my skimmer produce very tiny forms and had a strange smell. No2 tested 0. At first i suspect that it might be PH too low. On Monday, My naso tang was lying on the sand follow one by one from all anthias to flame hawk. In the afternoon situation became worse. My 4 Big queen turn pale similar to the 7inches French angel in the sump. One of the Queen sudden listed against the rock and die. Fishes in the tank was disease free. 60% of water was change and in 3 hours later, the colour of all the fishes regained back till the next day one more Asfur die and fishes began to reaction strangely again. So on Wednesday 80% water change again for both tank and follow by today another 25%. Situations improve.

Don’t feel sorry for my loss, it was my mistake and foolishness knowing the risk of keeping box fish. Hope that thing will keep on improving and back to normal.

Lesson learnt to all, if happen like boxfish toxic, immediately perform water change nothing below 100% less sump water with strong aeration. Possible move all livestock to a tub with 30% old water and 70% nsw for temporary holding. Once WC is done, move the livestock back slowly.

Thanks for sharing your personal experience, this is a very important real life lesson for newbies who are attracted to these cute creatures. But still..... I can't help feeling sorry for your loss :)

Oh besides massive water change and keeping the fish in a separate tub, I read somewhere that massive amounts of carbon will also help absorb toxins in emergencies like that.

My 1.5ft nano cube

My 24G nano tank (Decommed)

I can picture in my mind a world without war, a world without hate.

And I can picture us attacking that world, because they'd never expect it.

Ya tried all type of item that remove toxic, no use if the fish already hit by the toxic. Hope that the rest will not be affected.
