2ft To 3ft Tank

Recommended Posts

Hi to all SRC bros,

Currently I'm having a 2ft Juwel Lido marine tank, will be upgrade to a 3ft tank for my new house next month.

There are some points I need to enlighten in order for a problem free tank in future :

1. When the new tank arrive, must I soap/drain the tank water for a few times in order to remove the chemical sillicone smell?

2. After added in water, can I start introduce in live rock and base sand?

3. I will be using my old Ehiem2215 filter for my new tank, in order to speed up the process, can I remain the filter media inside?

consist of poly-filter, charcoal, sand.

4. What other stuff must I added in to speed up the process?

5. How soon can I start to transfer my corals to my new tank?

6. Any other matters that I need to take note beside measuring the water parameter?

7. For my existing corals, can I just put it in a white form box(with sea water), introduce air-stone but without filter for 2-3 weeks?

Sorry if my questions are too long :(

Thanks for all advise.

Some answers that I have for you.

1. When the new tank arrive, must I soap/drain the tank water for a few times in order to remove the chemical sillicone smell?

Please do not use soap.. You can rinse with tap water and drain out after that.

2. After added in water, can I start introduce in live rock and base sand?

You need to add in salt and mix to acceptable salinity level, then you can add in sand, then rocks.

3. I will be using my old Ehiem2215 filter for my new tank, in order to speed up the process, can I remain the filter media inside?consist of poly-filter, charcoal, sand.

Why do you need to put charcoal and sand? Not required..

4. What other stuff must I added in to speed up the process?

You can add in a small piece of market shrimp to start the cycling process

5. How soon can I start to transfer my corals to my new tank?

Once cycling is completed.. You can read up more on cycling process. I will advise to go slow on adding corals. But if you

reuse old tank water and sand, the process is much shorter

6. Any other matters that I need to take note beside measuring the water parameter?

Still the water parameterS

7. For my existing corals, can I just put it in a white form box(with sea water), introduce air-stone but without filter for 2-3 weeks?

2 -3 weeks may be tough.. What kind of corals?

Any idea whether the coming Aquarama sell their show/competition tank after the event? I heard during the previous show

they sell it off at $600 for a 3ft tank, is it better to get tank from there? Since their tank have been properly washed and cycled.

How to reserve 1 from there?

2 -3 weeks may be tough.. What kind of corals?

for point 6... please also take into consideration the temperature of the water and also a wave maker will be recommended for water circulation. do keep in mind that the cycling process should take up about 4 weeks.. thus its advisable to ensure the water condition is good and of cos the temperature..
