Hi

Has anyone modded the output plate for MCE 600 before?

Intending to get this skimmer but the ouput plate eats into 4 inch of my main tank.

Hoping to mod this into a 90 degree drop down piping instead that protrude only about 2 inch of my tank space.

Can anyone advise?

U should be able to use a 90 deg elbow and pipe to do that.

My Setup:

3x2x2 tank with IOS

Equipment List:

Chiller: Artica 1/5HP

Chiller Pump: Sicce 4000

Return Pump: OR3500

Skimmer: Deltec APF600

Wavemaker: Tunze Wavebox/2x Hydor K2/SCWD wavemaker

Lights: DElighting 2x150W MH + 2x 39W T5 Atinic

FR: Skimz

FR Pump: Atman AT-104

Tubby ATO, Kalkweisser Reactor with magnetic stirrer.

Yes it can be done, I have seen this being done before.

Actually the plate is not needed for the skimmer to function properly. It was an add-on by Deltec due to initial complaints of microbubbles by some users.

Some find it useless, others have reported success in reducing the microbubbles at the outlet. So you might want to watch out for microbubbles if you mod the piping. My suggestion is instead of a 90 degree elbow, try to see if you can get a 45 degree elbow or something to that extent to reduce microbubbles.

For me, I like my plate. It has become my tank's algae scrubber :)

thanks Comy.

I am thinking of dropping the output into my filter socks. so that should eliminate the bubbles problem.

your MCE is a natural algae scrubber .... nice :)

U need to measure the pipe diameter size and check if your hardware shop carries the 90 deg elbow that will fit the pipe. If not you may have to use silicon to glue the elbow to the pipe.

i forsee salt spray if you use 90d elbow which the output is above the water level.

if the output is below water level, there will be back pressure issue.

and the pipe standard used by deltec should be of DIN standard.

If a man could beat his own fantasy. Then to only breed in captivity. Then its pointless.

Genesis 1:20

And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that has life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. And God created great whales, and every living creature that moves, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth. And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.

good thoughts LaW.....

hmmm I am planning to have th e 90deg output pipe just above water level. Then use a cylindrical sponge to cushion the splasing.

The output is directly released into a filter socks.

hope this work.

DIN standard ==> standard piping size right?

DIN standard => European Standard Pipe Sizes.

yeah, like what Peter Tee mentioned. the sponge is a good idea, very much like weipro's style. you can find these sponges at C328. i remembered coming across different sizes but that was some time back.

think you can find what you need at RD and those shops at kitchenery road. but those shops can be annoying because they normally operate in office hours.

Microbubbles is a problem in mce600. Even u use sponge n filter sock.

I even diy a bubble trap but bubbles still there, only minimized.

I did a lot of experimentation but to no avail. I hv one

more experiment to do to attach a tube in the output of the

pump to raise the level of bubbles out.

One thing to note, if u plan to use filter sock, rinse

it first else ur skimmer will produce bubbles like crazy.

Pls let us know d result in your case.

HI Jacky

My MCE600 is not using the output plate. I mod it with a DIN right angle from RD. Speak to Seet and he will be able to let you know the size needed for the mod.

Thanks Joe. Will do. Do u face the same microbubbles issue that nuj has? I know Peter, Comycus all uses them but they dun have such issue. And dang.... U have 3 tanks??
