anyone been to Krabi?

anyone here been to Krabi in Thailand?

any recommendations for hotels to stay there? and which urh..tour group or whatever to buy our tickets/hotel accomodation from?

met an ang moh on my way to Koh Samui in 2001 and according to him it's a nice place but not as developed and crowded as Koh Samui. And that's his 3rd trip to Krabi after frequent Samui for the past few yrs.

beaches are far more better than phuket, second choice is phiphi island, i'd go for phuket only for food and shopping....

I was thinking of samui as well. but I doubt my friend is the adventurous type. so figured krabi, being closer to home geographically should ease him back a bit.

although my plan was to slack there for one week. and just sleep. and sleep. and sleep.

I rode my bimmer to phuket last year and crashed at krabi.. that's why it's sad

Phi Phi is a gd choice too, Samui is a nice place too, can go to nearby islands or enjoy the night, best if full moon

I have been to Krabi, Samui and Phuket... They all have their own specialty which caters to different sort of people... It depends on yourself and your friend...

Krabi is not an island... Just a place in the south west of Thailand.

Phuket is an island but have a bridge that links it to the mainland.

Samui is an island. It take 2 hours on a ferry from pattani to reach to Samui.

Krabi, extremly quite. Good for writing books Reflection time to see what you can change for this new year.

Phuket, very commercialize. Got bungee, reverse bungee, paintball go-kart and so on... Very activity based...

Samui a bit like 'cowboy town'. If you go there, don't forget the Reggae Pub (a must go)...

But all these places, you can go island hopping and maybe do diving or snorkelling...

Monsoon wise, Krabi and Phuket not affected. But Samui it should be at the tail end now...

forgot about phiphi island, situated near east of phuket and south of krabi, has a good laid back like... time is slow, nice fine white beaches and during low time can walk for a kilometer or more grazing at the corals... its a back packer's paradise, basically only 1 hotel in the island and rest are resort type bungalows... but u can get almost everything u need there; internet cafes, shopping, good food, bars, diving, they even have movie times in restaurants.. hehehe...

its more of a white race dominance though, and mostly are young people, u would c the difference between the crowd in phuket and phiphi island... worth going...
