Tank size

Never heard before.

Shallow tanks are more light efficient but deeper tanks give more volume and view. It depends on how long your arms are and the budget. Another point worth considering is the depth of the sand bed in the tank.

Inspite of having the chance to do a deeper tank when I custom built my current one... I didn't go for anything deeper than 2 ft in dept (excluding 4 inches extra for sandbed).

Reason being... once it exceeds 2 ft (which is the length of a human arm), you will find it very hard to do maintenance eg. pick objects like rocks, corals, clams etc.

Since my tank is wide (3 feet) I have to sometimes work from the back coz I can't reach from the front.

Although I agree a deep tank is nice to look at... you will regret big time later.
