Hi all,

This is my first time posting in this forum. I am thinking of getting Nuvo Nano 20 ( L:24 , W:12 , Height:13 ) tank with build in 3 stage filtration and return pump.

I havent buy anything yet, still planning out what to buy for this coming monday ( payday !!! ) :P

These are my listed items that i can think of to start a reef + fish tank

1 x Nuvo tank $265

1 x innovative marine skylight clamp (18 wats ) $125

1 x Innovative marine spin stream nozzle $20

1 x Innovative marine Ghost protein skimmer $180 <<< does it necessary ? i am thinking of getting at 2nd month >>

1 x Red sea coral pro salt (7kg) $35

reef sand / live sand for the flooring 39-45$

live rocks and some basic corals

all the prices are from http://freshnmarine.com.sg/

I went down there afew week ago to inquire , the owner is very helpful in explaining me in details but i was abit blur to catch up all.

so i am thinking this should be my first purchasment to start my tank and leave it for a few days, then I will slowly introduce my fish.

Is there any step i am missing out? and any equipment that i should buy with my system. I am planning to spend about 600-700

Display tank+ Build in sump : 24" x 15 x 13 (6mm High Clarity Low Iron Glass ) Nuvo Nano 20

Lightings : Innovative marine skyy light (6x3 watt) x 2

Chiiler : Hailea HS 28a (set @26 C)

skimmer : innovative Ghost protein skimmer

Reactor : coming soon .. :)

Wave Maker : Boyu wave maker wm 15

Firstly what kind of fish and corals are you planning to keep? it will affect your set up. Best is to plan carefully before you start. Spend a bit more on the first tank and get the right equipment. If not you will spend more upgrading in the future.

The light seems good enough only for fishes only set up. 18watts a bit too low. There are a few better and stronger lights in the market. Back again to what you intend to keep.

Protein skimmer is quite important for a reef tank. If you planning to cycle the tank for the first month den can probably get the skimmer second month.

Honestly I would get a tank with a sump. It helps you hide all your equipment and gives you more room for upgrade and get more equipment like reactors.

You are missing out a chiller or a fan to keep the temperature low. Best is to get a chiller, a fan will result in a lot of evaporation and your salinity will swing a lot, unless you get an auto top up device.

I like innovative marine tanks. Its a very nice all in one system. How efficient is the filtration? i got no idea. But for a starter tank, it should be fine.

Heres what i will do if I were u:

1. Get the Nuvo tank

2. Get a small sized chiller or fan

3. Get a wavemaker, probably a jebao rw4 x 2. Ideally.

4. Get that skimmer because its built for the dimensions to fit the back of the tank. Else, look at getting the new BM QQ skimmer which is hang on, slightly more ugly if u ask me, defeats the purpose of the clean all in one look.

5. Get that red sea salt

6. Buy your sand, rocks, filtration materials and start the cycle.

7. Wait on getting the lights last, U can cycle the tank and keep small nano fishes while waiting for the 2nd month. By than your budget will be slightly better, and u will be more informed with the type of lights u require. Led or t5 don't matter, but get a good one to save yourself future upgrades.

OR

Just custom make a tank with sump. lol

Good luck, have fun.

Bro, save up for the fnm two feet DT tank size. The nano 20 is just too small. For ur budget u can consider getting a WTS second hand bigger tank.

Nano tank for beginner is a high risk thingy. Too small for FOWLR. Too tricky to keep the water para within range.

If u want to get the IM lights u need to get 2 piece. It's too small. 1 piece is onli for nuvo 10.

The spinning nozzle will reduce the pressure of the water flow as the diameter is bigger. Bether that u spend the $ on better wave maker with lower power consumption.

The skimmer is gd. Get it it fits nicely into the ios. And u can't see it at all.

if u gonna keep coral u will need the IM reactor and a chiller.

with the reactor and chiller your buget will be more then $700. Unless it's fowlr.

Nuvo 20 is 2ft.

Two ft is ok. But being IOS, how would a chiller pump fit in if u gonna upgrade to sps...

Also u will need two fans to keep the temp down plus space for AC, GFO, etc.

Anw, for LPS and fish shall be fine. Wave maker wise just one rw4 will do. Max of 4000l flow of it is more than enough.

I think should have enough space for the chiller pump. Must ask the shop how they do it.

I am not sure abt the chiller stuffs. Cos my is onli fowlr.

Bro zipp86 is selling his 2.5 cube tank with sump, LR, Coral and ATI Light, Skimz Skimmer...all in for only 1k.

Maybe you can consider as it's more worth than your current setup.

yeah, i am supposed to get 2 lights but i will get the 2nd light on the following month after cycling done.

I am not sure what to keep. I am thinking of 1( or may be 2 ) clown fish + some prawns and snail. reefs i will go for cheap and easy for beginner type.

and the Nuvo protein skimmer is build for nuvo tank.

at behind of the tank there is a build in slot to put in 1 reactor + 1 protein skimmer . all will hide nicely. if all the products are from Innovative.

haha usually will say want keep clowns and a few lifestock but once u get poisoned with those beautiful corals you would want to keep. I also decomm but hands very itchy to get back in...

Maybe for your tank to manage the nutrients you can try adding polyplab biospehere heard that it works quite well

Nope marine is not like planted tanks they don't need CO2 unless you are running a calcium reactor. But that is for larger tanks you dun have to worry.

What are you planning to put into the skim monzter? If it fits why not. But might not have space.

Lights there are a few types, LED and T5. Both got pros and cons can research first before deciding. For LED if you want affordable one maybe can go for those china made one such as sanrise or eshine.
