  1. Whoa! Nice setup, nice fish, nice everything!
  2. What kind of macroalgae is this and will it help with nitrate export? Thanks in advance!
  3. I read the article with great interest until I saw the second pic showing a tool with the caption "A primitive axe crafted out of driftwood and shell that is believed to be the handiwork of dolphins." I had to laugh my b*lls off!
  4. Very nice! Photos very sharp and colour very realistic too! Is it a digicam? Which one is it?
  5. Matt06: I prefer the Aqua Medic 400. Thanks anyway. pondfisher: Sounds quite low-maintenance. Thanks for the helpful information. Merry Christmas all!
  6. Flameback Angel AKA African Pygmy Angel AKA Orangeback Angel
  7. pondfisher, I am thinking of getting the Aqua Medic Nitrate Reductor 400 also. May I know where did you buy yours from and how much did you pay for it? And is it a low or high maintenence equipment? Thanks in advance!
  8. No sump, no DSB, no skimmer? Just tons of LR I guess. And what are those basket thingy you are talking about? Would appreciate more info/details regarding your beautiful setup. Thanks in advance!
  9. What's this internal biological sump? How much is it? Any website, photos or info regarding this thingy? Thanks in advance!
  10. blueheaven, Is that the LFS in T@mpines Ave 2?
  11. I'm a little confuse with this too. Here's what's on the box. Would appreciate it if anyone expert could clarify. Thanks in advance. "N.B. The Tetratest NO3- Kit measures total nitrate ion (NO3-) concentration. To obtain the value for Nitrate-Nitrogen concentration in mg/l, the value obtained with the kit should be divided by 4.4."
  12. You quoted me while I was editing. Anyway, to clarify things, at 3 o'clock, the flow regulator is at its minimum flow. At 12 o'clock, it is at its full flow. You may have to set yours differently. Like I mentioned, that's what the flow regulator is designed for. Read the manual regarding micro bubbles. That's what I did. It helps.
  13. Mine is less than half. It is set at about 2 o'clock.
  14. I noticed too that the skimmer skims more when the SG is higher. I was trying to save some money on salt mix earlier and my SG was 1.019. It is now 1.024 and skimming more. Thought I should mention this........
  15. Another pic taken today. Tip: Read the manual thoroughly and follow the instructions. That's exactly what I did! Your water chemistry may be different from mine so telling you guys exactly where I set the flow regulator may not work for your tank. That's exactly what the flow regulator is designed for; different water chemistry, eg. bioload, SG, feeding, heavy/light waste producers, etc. etc. IMHO, bioload does play a major part in protein skimming. Protein skimming AKA foam fractionation is a form of filtration. If you were to skim just salt/sea water, I seriously doubt your skimmer will skim anything at all. If there's nothing to skim/filter, there's nothing to skim/filter! That's why I am very curious why some forummers here mentioned that they are skimming kopi-o with or without fish. A freshwater example would be an external canister filter. If there's no fish in your freshwater tank, will your canister filter filter anything? Initially when I started using my Prizm skimmer, it's either skimming nothing or light green tea. I thought die lah bought wrong skimmer liao! It was when I started adding some mushrooms, Hermit Crabs, Astrael Snails, 4 Clowns, 2 Yellow Gobies, 1 Doctor fish and 1 Coral Beauty (of course, not all at the same time lah!) and increase feeding as well, then the Prizm skimmer started brewing some kopi-o for me. Honestly, if I have the money, I would have bought the AquaC Remora Pro as this I heard does not need tweaking; just plug-n-play. And honestly, it can be kind of troublesome tweaking Prizm's flow regulator every now and then just to get the right skimmate. You need patience with this skimmer. I read there's some comparison between the Prizm and Remora too. But I think it's an unfair comparison as both are in totally different price leagues! All the above are my own personal opinion. Please correct me if I am wrong and constructive comments/replies are most welcome! As for now, I'll stick with my Prizm as it's finally brewing kopi-o for me! Cheers. ps. when I get tired of tweaking and have the money, I'll probably upgrade to a Remora Pro.
  16. Kopi-o anyone? This is not your plug-n-play kind of skimmer. You need a lot of patience to tweak this guy. I did some fine-tuning with the flow regulator to get skimmate like what I have here. As for the impeller problem, some of the not so favourable comments you guys read on the net is about the old 10 or 12 blade one. Red Sea has already replaced it with an 18-blade impeller some time back.

  18. Ya, that is cheap. Cheapest I thought is P*tm*art at $12. I am also interested to know where did you buy yours from.
  19. Deep water LPS corals do benefit from actinic lighting. More info on actinic lighting below. http://www.wetwebmedia.com/marine/setup/li...actinicfaqs.htm
  20. Hi guys, I'm thinking of using this product to control the nitrate in my tank....am wondering what kind of filter do you guys put the denitrate in as it requires a slow 50gph flow rate. Thanks in advance.
  21. Hey, thanks for the quick reply.
  22. Hi roidan, I'm quite new to marine fishkeeping. May I know what's this azno3 that you mentioned? Does it help with lowering nitrate level? If it does, where can I get it and how much please? Thanks in advance!
  23. Good! I'll go Reborn first then Marine Life later. Thanks guys! Cheers!
