Hi Reefers, Thought to show off my new DIY sump tank (a spare tank I have), 17" X 10" x 10" with a refugium. Fully commission and have passed Factory acceptance test with simulation of power cut off. Currently sump tank still running concurrently with a canister. Just bought some tonga to add to the right side of my main tank and is going to add another 2" of sand from Changi Beach. Comments?

Canister is replacement for sump?
kschew1498 replied to Virus's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Hi Matt06 and fellow reefers I have recently DIY a sump tank with a refugium. In it I have 4" of grade 0 & 1 sandbed. May I ask how do you grow micro algae? Are those the "grasses" grown on LR? What sort of things I should add into my refugium beside my DSB? Appreciate you guys advise.... -
Do you guys use this in a refugium??

Hammer Tentacles Sticking out as long as 4 - 5"
kschew1498 replied to kschew1498's topic in General Reefkeeping_
Now I am really confused??!!! "water current is strong, the sweeping tentacles will be extended" "too fast the tentacles will retract itself..." "try changing the waterflow (direction/flow rate) ard the hammer." I probably have to conclude to have it at a low waterflow area??? Right??? -

I have a rotating power head now and it pointing toward the hammer but ...... Silver2578, does you hammer re-tract itself when you blow your water direction at it? How is it now? Still extending the tentacles to such length? -
Hi Anybody encounter a hammer coral having its tentacles...or should I say the hammer head, sticking out to as long as 4 to 5 inches long....Seem like fishing something.. It has previous attached the hammer head to a mushroom causing it to melt away!!! Is there anything I should do? I have relocate my mushroom and buttons away from it....the nearest to it now is a jewel....sign! Its already just a 2 ft tank and now I have to create ample space for this hammer coral!!!

I saw Atman Chiller in Jakarta also.....I think is a 1/2 hp and is cheaper than that!! I nearly bye but was thinking the warranty and resale value! Sunray, may I ask how long is the warranty period when you bought it initially?? Is it electricity efficient?? Looking for my advise and experience with Atman before I get one in Indonesia.

Fine thin thread flying aound the tank
kschew1498 replied to kschew1498's topic in General Reefkeeping_
anyone have such experiences and wouldnt mind sharing?? Thanks -
Hi everybody I just notice there is a lot of fine thin thread, slimmy slimmy one....flying around my tank....swept by my powerhead and filter inflow current! A lot I must say! I manage to pick a couple up and it looks like it was puke out by my tube anemone previously. (pass away) Currently I still have one tube anemone. Any advise? Are they harmful? Must I net them out?
