  1. whatever you do, it's going to take a lot of time and effort to grow them into adult shrimps. might as well use them for coral food.
  2. so does this one come with stand? if have then im interested.
  3. i'm looking for MH for my 4ft. but needs to be the stand on tank type.
  4. hi. what grade is your sand? i think they don't eat the sand if the grains are too big.
  5. really depends on the fish you keep. some fish probably don't move more than a few feet from their homes throughout the course of their entire lives. Others, like tangs (srry. dun mean to sound like tang police here) need plenty space to swim freely in the wild, which unfortunately we cannot replicate in our own homes. since we are all already into this hobby, what we can do now is to try our level best to create a 'home away from home' for these fish, simulating their natural habitat, foods, etc in our own tanks. at the same time making our tanks more of a pleasure to view. happy reefing.
  6. sorry to change the subject... but i'm curious to know, how many pple out there are using MH without a chiller? trying to decide on lighting for my new setup. can share your experiences?
  7. ever eaten shako or squilla sushi before? that's mantis.
  8. still alive? there are people around who will gladly relieve you of an unwanted mantis shrimp.
  9. i think what u got is a fridmani pseudochromis. not a black cap basslet...
  10. i had the same problem as you... the little bugger was chasing my fridmani. eventually caught it at night when all lights were off. they dont sleep in caves so it's not that hard to get them at night.
  11. if you want the denitrifying effect of the DSB, then you shouldnt allow the water to flow throught the sand.
  12. from time to time you should also try to give them hard shelled prey, like live crabs, FW crayfish, etc. simulates their natural prey in the wild. market prawn should take up the bulk of its diet though... if it's still small maybe you can wean it onto mysis.
  13. IMO, crustaceans are totally out of the question. even keeping fish with it is risky, unless the fish is really big. good tankmates would include other moray eels.
  14. your rock must be porous for the bacteria to grow in it. if not its just rock with algae on it, and not LR.
  15. those at sealife are not peacock mantis... they are the common spearer type.
  16. lobster? looks more like a pistol shrimp... anyway, i don't mind taking it. where to collect?
  17. i saw also. abt 3-4 inch. dunno the price. selling at the shop at serangoon north ave 2. the only other marine LFS besides rainbow.
  18. males have 2 gonopods between the last pair of walking legs.
  19. why not just buy one? the ones found in LR are usually unattractive, and too small if you want to watch them killing prey such as FW crayfish a peacock mantis shrimp can cost as low as 12 bucks. saw at L35 b4. both male and female. i bought mine for slightly more. a 5 inch long female.
  20. the purpose of DSB is to create a low oxygen zone for denitrifying bacteria. if it is totally anaerobic, in other words zero oxygen, hydrogen sulfide producing bacteria will grow. this is what i read... correct me if im wrong.
  21. nice pics. are those mantis shrimps on sticks that i see along with those fried starfish?
  22. the second one looks cool... dun really like the first.
  23. spotted a 10cm long collarworm in my tank. should i try to get rid of it?
