  1. I know this is a soft coral but can I use small zoanthids (sea mats)? I've seen lots of sps tank that have zoanthids use as a filler. Monti caps would require a big horizontal space. I have mushrooms but I place them at the bottom and on the edge of the tank.
  2. Hi guys, What are some of the good small coral choices to use as a filler between and below sps (acro) corals? Frankie
  3. My company needs a part timer in layout design but it is all the way here in KL. Sigh!
  4. Here is my understanding..... If your tank is very low in calcium, increase it with calcium chloride (Kent Turbo Calcium or Kent Liquid Calcium). If your tank is low in Kh, increase it with sodium bicarbonate (KH Buffer). Once calcium is at 400-450 and Kh is 8-12, stop adding. You will notice both calcium and Kh will go down in a few days if you dont add anything. That is why you use calcium hydroxide (kalkwasser) to maintain it so that both the calcium and Kh dont fall. So calcium hydroxide (kalkwasser) is use to maintain. If your calcium is very low and you wanna increase it (BOOST) , use calcium chloride. If you wanna just maintain calcium that is slowly depleated from your tank, use calcium hydroxide (kalkwasser). A side note: If you have a tank full of hard corals or sps that take up calcium faster than you can say "Ah.. what happen", you might need to add a bit calcium chloride and calcium hydroxide (kalkwasser) to maintain 400-450. Do buy Kh and Calcium test kit and test them before and after adding the above stuff. Then test again 5 days later to see if it maintain about the same level. Then you can adjust the amount needed to add. If my info is wrong, do correct me. Frankie
  5. I got 2 clams that spawn one day. The cleaner shirmp went crazy and attack them. By the next morning, the 2 clams are dead. I think they are going for the eggs and sperm but knowing how a pig they can be, they tear the clams to bits. To me they are like 2 ninjas, coming out only at night an kill! If it is not because the cleaner shrimp spawn and supply food for my fish and corals, I would have chop them to bits and feed my fish!
  6. I just frag my birdsnest 2 weeks ago for the second time. I frag the bottom part. They are not easy with wirecutter cause I end up with more frags than I am suppose to. Somehow, they dont break where you want them. Then I use a plant cutter to cut away bit by bit then use a plyer to grip it and twist. It broke at the place I first chip. The same applies to the thicker branches. Do it under water. The first time I frag, I do it out of the water in a sink. Frags flies all over the place. Even down the sink hole . Now I know better. 7. You guys can get information here: http://www.blv-licht.de/redsys/prod/showPr...pid=2&prodid=17 Click on the Adobe Acrobat file on the right. Most of the information you need is there. The spectral distribution for the BLV 150w 20k is on the 3rd page. It have a strong peak at 450nm typical of 20k bulb. Hope this helps. Frankie
  8. My clam Beautiful clam, Lousy photographer.
  9. Thanks for the info guys! On a side note, I do notice polyps that expand in day time have colours in them and those polyp that expand at night is white or no colour at all. This make sense since at night there is no light and the polyps dont need zoos there.
  10. Thanks Joe P! I even have Turbinaria peltata change from a boring light brown to florescent green. Even a white Heteractis malu is now florescent green with blue tip. One brown Acropora millepora now have florescent green polyps!! My Acropora humilis remains brown. You might be right with this brown one. There is another light brown Acropora sp. that is now turning pink with purple tips! Beside water quality, movement, light intensity and kevin, do you think UV contribute to this colour change?
  11. Need to double check with you guys. Base on your exp. if a normal brown Acropora turn florescent green in 2 weeks, is it getting enough light, too much lights or too much UV light? Frankie
  12. Thanks guys! My design is base on Eric Borneman's surge device. I manage to modified Eric's device to get rid of both noise and bubbles. I've post my design at Reef Central before cause they cant figure out how to get rid of the noise and bubbles. My design would have help them out a lot but not much respond there. Frankie
  13. Hi Godzilla, I have clams spawn before. They pump out this white cloud thing very fast. Looks like sperm. Soon other clams join in too. It lasted around 40 min to an hour. My whole tank look like someone pour milk in there. The skimmer went crazy too. If you have cleaner shrimps in there, keep an eye on them. Mine kill 2 clams after they spawn. You need to do big water change if you have a few clams spawn. Frankie
  14. My humble self thank you all. Frankie
  15. Hai Juan!!! So long I did not hear from you! There have been changes to my tank since the last time you saw it. I have also manage to silent the surge device and also now there is no more bubbles. And of course you now also notice the SPS. It is hard in Malaysia to find a nice colour acropora. Most are brown. The nice coloured ones the LFS will always put in their show tank. And they wont sell those. Not even when I tried to "push" them with more $$$. I manage to get a LFS to keep an eye out for me. There is a nice Blue acropora in Batu Karang few weeks back but that one have RTN at the lower branch. Not something I wanna add to my tank. The good thing is I have a few acroporas coloured up within a few weeks in my tank. Juan, do keep an eye out for me will you? Call me if you see any nice acropora!!! Thanks!
