  1. Wow totq give thumbs up! Time for house visit?
  2. Bro u should be able to find him at AM lei, give them a call to check if he's in store ba?
  3. Bro any updates on your tank progress?
  4. Thx! Scaping was done with gf's help. I dunno what it would look like without her. The wires are all hidden behind the skimmer, so you don't really see it in the photo! lol But do check out "Reef in the Sky" thread in RC. That was the inspiration for our tank design. Lots of good ideas including the side compartment for cabling! The LED light is just reused from my old IQ5. No plans for refugium as we are using biopellets. It's just used to light up the cabinet when working on the sump at night. Nice rocks, easier to scape! lol I must try to take a mirror shot like tt, show another gorilla!
  5. Hi bro, your build is almost completed Your learning curve might be abit more steep with this build, but that's a good attitude to start off with! Some suggestions from me... You should ask Vincent to rectify some of the suggestions made, especially as they pose a electrical safety hazard. For the scaping, it seems you have also engaged Vincent to do the scaping, so make sure you are happy with the scape. You might want to research more on the beautiful scapes reefers have built in their tanks. Reef Central is one good place to start off with, of course our forum have some good artists too. Wilson and Thairun's scapes are 2 large tank scapes I can think of now, can feel free to 'copy and paste'. I doubt you would want to rescape in the future so do make sure it is done well. Yes, it would be nice to have some CF rocks, but its your wallet at the end of the day. For the wavemakers, I agree that Vortech doesn't suit your build. You would need at least 2 wavemakers, maybe add a wave box if you have the space. If budget is an issue, can explore other cheaper alternatives. You may even use the $ saved to buy better live rocks maybe? The biggest issue I foresee is the lights which would hinder your movement within the tank. I think it is v. important that you have easy access to your tank or you may lose interest in the tank v. quickly. I doubt you can mount them to push the fixtures fowards and backwards since you have a support beam in the way. I agree with Ketchup that it is more or less a dead fixture. My suggestion is to ask Vincent to build some sort of hook/shelf along the support beam so that you can lift up and rest the lightset while you work in your tank in future. Yes, the hanging kit allows you to move the lightset up and down, but we are talking about convenience here. And with such a large tank, convenience is key.
  6. IMO, main principle for sump is to keep it simple, especially for small sumps where space is a constraint. 1. Internal skimmers operate at a fixed range of water level, so have to take that into account when building sump. 2. Evaporation rate would affect your return pump compartment, make sure you have sufficient buffer or the return pumps would suck air. 3. Cover your filter sock/sponge compartment to prevent splashes. 4. Allow space for future upgrades such as FRs, BP reactor, Ca/Kalkwasser reactors, dosing pumps. 5. Make sure skimmer can fit into sump and removed easily when doing maintenance. 6. You should have sufficient height to stick your head/hands into all areas of the sump, I suggest at least 32" height cabinet. Good luck in your build. I always recommend a 2 ft wide tank. Resun 450 is underpowered for a 3ft tank, I suggest getting at least 1/4HP chiller if you are using chinese brands. They are normally not as powerful (and more noisy) as the more established brands. Can research on biopellets, many ppl have reported success in nutrient control using them. Less messy compared to running a refugium.
  7. Gonio garden! looking good Jacky! this current scape looks v. natural
  8. Welcome to src. Strongly recommend you to go 2ft wide tank. You will have more space to work with and the extra space would give you a better scape. Otherwise, with your dimensions, best to get it custom built.
  9. Beautiful eel! Would you be letting it out into the tank?
  10. The lightset comes with quite a big driver/controller box, I was contemplating housing it within the cabinet, but there are space constraints. Temporarily placed next to the tank, still looking for a small cabinet to put beside the tank to house all my accessories
  11. Pics of the messy sump... This Skimz is really quite value for money workhorse. I just cleaned the cup and it pulled out this gunk. Looking forward to kopi gao in future!
  12. Lol u have a v good imagination bro, it does look like a gorilla! And aptly so, this bugger weighs 7kg, at CF prices, no wonder they say Mountain gorillas are an endangered (and expensive) species.
  13. Wow bro, based on your coral feeding regime, looks like you would be doing some heavy stocking in the next few weeks. Would need to monitor your parameters carefully When's the tank coming in? Do keep us posted on your setup pics! Will be camping here
  14. Beautiful built in cabinet. You must be happy with the finished product. Now I see the reason for having a tap in the sump, for you RO/DI water. Interesting design to have it housed inside the sump. You have an area dedicated to mixing saltwater in your sump? Makes it neater and less troublesomen to lug buckets around and make a mess in the house. I do hope you have enough working space to work with after the lights are installed! It looks quite narrow to me. No matter, short ladder is a must for u. Good luck with scaping!
  15. Tank in full diatom bloom, lots of space for fishes to swim and corals to grow. Still trying out white balance settings to get the real colours out... View from the back...
  16. Thx Jacky, the rocks are really nice and easy to scape. Thx for helping out last week! The sump is alot more crowded now as we have added in 2 FRs for biopellets and rowaphos. I guess only bigger tanks have the luxury of having more real estate. GF and I did a minor rescape this morning, and also managed to do some housekeeping. First up, finally did up the wiring! Inspiration drawn from 'Reef in the Sky' for those who know... Tight space at the back for maintenance if needed to. Orphek PR-156W... enough to light up my living room at night!
  17. Totally agree having your loved one supporting and joining in this hobby is a bliss! I see lots of similarities in terms of our visualisation of the end product of the tank. Could trade ideas on your dosing regime and other husbandry in time to come. Probably would start LFS shopping end of the year or Jan? Definitely can arrange something! We used salt mix in the water and would prefer some time for the water to stabilise and soften.
  18. Nicely thought out build, can see you have gone through a fair bit of planning and research. Great choice of equipment too! Looks like you would be going for a full sps tank this time? sweet sweet poison My personal choice would be to ditch the medium sand bed in the refugium. could cause more headaches in future than good. With balling method, alk would be held steady to buffer against ph swings. Ever considered using Biopellets instead of Zeovit to achieve ULNS? Zeovit imposes a strict dosing regime, could be quite tedious after a while.
  19. Bro, I'm sure you are planning more equipment? 1 mp40 in your tank would be too weak and i doubt 60lbs of sand is enough to cover your tank bottom. Suggest to get another 20lbs at least. Nice idea to have a tap in your sump, may I know what's it gonna be used for? Looking forward to your updates on the completed setup this weekend.
  20. Agreed, just go with how much your wallet can afford ba bro... the $ saved can buy more poison to put in your tank

  22. never used them before, but I just saw this RC thread yesterday, the pics were taken using canon g10... Not to mention his sps are
  23. I'm at a loss for words... Read all the pinned articles http://www.sgreefclub.com/forum/forum/6-new-to-the-marine-aquaria-hobby/
  24. Bro, you might want to waterproof those electrical switches, they are so near your overflow and sump, its like inviting murphy. You might also want to build some sort of cover around your filter sock and overflow compartments to prevent splashes. Nice build you have going on here! With the luxury of a new house and not moved in yet, you can afford to do the tank setup slowly part by part and troubleshoot if there is anything wrong Care to share your sump design? I see a v. nice big area set aside for refugium
