  1. I have been running my biopellets for about 3-4 days now and this morning I have taken out my biopellets from the FR but I plan to put them back in. I don't understand by what you meant by wait for the pellets to be established again. Could you explain further? And what is the purpose of drying it? Also, I observe my skimmer is producing lots of bubbles. In fact there are so much of these bubbles that the collection cup can't contain them. I have to use a plastic bag to collect all these bubbles. There is a little of foul-smelling skimate though. Is this what you are experiencing when you say that your skimmer stop skimming? Both my equipment are HOB types over my main tank. I temporary stop my FR because there are so much bubbles and foam produced on the water surface. In fact half the footprint of the tank is covered with a layer of bubbles/foam on the surface.
  2. Just to confirm that we are talking about FOWLR. how do you guys remove the nitrate buildup with don't do water change? #2. where to get the ozone? and how do you apply it? #3. i also like to know at least 1.5 times of the volume of water? #4. i'm using actinic lights #6. just bought a cooling fan. Dymax says should lower temperature by 2 to 4 degrees.
  3. Seems like this is the closest I can find to what I need: http://freshnmarine.com.sg/estore/product_info.php?products_id=2077
  4. Why is distilled water better than RO/DI? I bought 10 1.5L distilled water from Giant. But it's troublesome having to carry home all 10 bottles. Are there any supermart selling dispenser can of distilled water? I have a theory why MadPetz is cheaper. Their RO/DI is in-house brand?
  5. Hey guys, thanks for the advice. Hanna Salifert Red Sea Deltec I'll check out all these brands. Are there other brands? NO3 PO4 Alk/KH Ca Mg pH These are important parameters to check in a reef tank. But it seems that these good brands do not have test kits for NH3 and NO2 (correct me if I am wrong). Why is this so? BTW, I meant master test kit to be a set of individual test kits bundled together and sold as one set.
  6. Hi guys, what is the best master test kit in the market these days? And what parameters are included? I find it a hassle to buy individual test kits for separate parameters.
  7. I have some of these purplish (and some very dark purple) patches growing on my LR. Is this coraline algae or cyano? How do I tell?
  8. What is the advantage of laying sand over crushed corals as compared to replacing the crushed corals with sand? I currently have crushed corals as my substrate and I can see algae growing on the sides within the substrate. I guess the bacteria has provided the algae with nutrients to bloom due to the trapped detritus. If I now cover this gravel with a sand bed, won't the bacteria become anaerobic and convert the nitrates to nitrogen? That would solve my high nitrate level problem.
  9. I don't understand the science of it. Why will the pH drop when the lights are turned off?
  10. where can you buy one of these 19L bottled distilled water? You're not adding salt during water change (about 20%)? Why?
  11. When you top-up, do you just use tap water treated with anti-chlorine or do you have to mix it with salt? And correct me if I am wrong, but for water change of say 20% you have to use salt-mixed water after anti-chlorine treatment. Is this right? I am asking this in relation to just using treated tap water. For both questions I am not using RO/DI treatment as I understand that PUB's tap water is good enough for FOWLR. There is very little nitrates (checked by using a test strip) and the anti-chlorine also helps to neutralise heavy metals (as claimed by the manufacturer).
  12. I'm afraid I don't know what bio pallets mean. Could you give me an example or point me a link to get more info on that? Refugium is out of the question as my space is rather limited. BTW where can I get those products you mentioned AZN03 , 2TL NPX or the REDSEA N:PX?
  13. Thanks for the advice. I'm trying to being my nitrate level to 0. Right now it's at 40. Could you recommend me the best way to do this?
  14. How do you douse bacteria onto them? Inside the tank or when you're rinsing them under the tap? Are these in liquid form?
  15. I have a LS20 and bought a bubble reducer sock. Why are bubbles bad for fish?
