  3. So i know now my main issue is not the chiler but actually ventilation....the ventilation on the cabinet doors are too small and hot air cant escape. Now i need carpentry services on one of the door to install grills. Anyone knew of such service?

  4. Thats alot of ls u are keeping in that small tank. I have that same skimmer i used before, its good but personally,..for nano tank just stick to frequent water changes. might want to also consider a nano chiller for your shrimps, they can't survive in a small space in a warm environment. Unless your room is 24/7 aircon there is very high chance of stress for all the ls.

i hope your nano tank success, i gave up on mine 6 months down and upgraded, less time spent on almost

  5. Ahh, thank you very much for your input.

Any of you guys use this chiller before?

I started to notice a pattern, it will run for 4-5 hours and cool for the rest of the day approximately 8-10 hours? then kick in again. i chill to 29 from 31 deg on my 600l tank.

I have no experience with large tank size chiller before so i need to know if this is normal?

the last tank i use was a 2 feet and this same chiller kick in every 2-3 hours for 15-20 mins.

  6. Hi,

I have an old teco ra680 chiller...the kick in time is longer than expected tochill down 1 deg in my 600l tank (4×3×3) .its supposed tobe a 1/2 hp . I am ofa mind tobring it down for servicing..its a first for me so i would appreciate if someone can point me to a good service provider

  7. zoas dont need target feed, its those non-photosynthetic that is more likely to die of starvation. Sun Corals/ Sea fans etc. The zooplankton will do most of the job of providing food for the zoas. As for the palytoxin, have a decent pair of rubber gloves nearby when handling them. The liquid it secretes when you accidentally tear them apart contains the toxin and will burn your flesh.

sidenote: Advise for new reefers...never boil live rocks if given such advise for whatever reason...the fumes will contain some of that toxin and can be absorbed through inhalation.

Zoas will 'melt' when they are stressed, usually in a high nutrient tank, just like any other corals, maintaining perfect parameters is paramount to a succesful tank

  8. I use a PAR 38 before, should be more than enough for IQ5, but I have a bad experience trying to maintain a very small aquarium, mostly due to the great fluctuations in salinity. Unless you are willing to keep a constant lookout for evaporation, the livestocks will suffer alot. I see a dymax skimmer on your table, if u r planning on using that, I recommend to use a quality airstone. From my personal experience with it, barely manage to skim anything at all. I resorted to constant water change, and believe it or not, nano tanks are harder to maintain than a decent 2f tank.

  9. Thanks, I know they do peck on corals, i was under the impression that they were more reef safe than some of the other angels, it has never pecked on any of my corals before, just the one breed of zoas that i recently purchased (I have other zoas in the vicinity). i was hoping if there is any other solution beisdes trading it off though...

  10. If more people buy, please share your review here. Lack of reviews even on other websites....I am still using it, so far my 2ft mixed tank is doing fine with a constant 1.021 using brix conversion. Note that i compared with the normal see-through-pinhole refractometer and i find a drastic difference btw the two readings.
