  1. Wah Lao, this one can star in a new sci-friction movie, called "Freak Shrimp"!!
  2. Some people advocate Tropic Marin but I don't see any difference between brands. Cost wise, Tropic Marin is on the higher side.
  3. Cool Water, I suggest you check our pasar Malam thread. You could get the stuff you need at very good prices, not to say the advice that can come along from the more experienced reefers.
  4. I think in terms of attitude and lousy service, no one can beat the old couple at Bukit Timah Plaza.
  5. Welcome to SRC, our long-awaited number 300. Glad to have you. Also, your nick is one of my fav fish.
  6. The type with the hood that can sit a few inches above the tank, comes with 2 x 150W MH and FL lamp, anyone know around how much? Is it possible to get less than $800? Or anyone has second hand one? Another query. Is this light good enough for reef tank 2ft deep with softies, mushrooms and clams? I have a chiller already, so heat is not a problem. I like AT's aquasunlight but too ex. Is Gilbert Marine Pet's this type and how much?
  7. Now I know why I kept hearing this rumbling sound everynight when I'm watching TV. Though my TV is spoilt!
  8. I trust Kent's Garlic Extreme. $20 for a small bottle at Sealife. Each time only need 2 to 3 drops, so can use very long. Since using it, even the delicate Blue Tangs are free of ick. Also me yellow Tang and Flame Angel love it so much that they are a little obese already!
  9. Sorry if this topic has been discussed before. I have a 4X2X2 reef with mainly softies, mushies and a few clams. I have 2 FL (20K +10K), 2 PL (10K) and one Actinic 03. Corals look alright. My mushies are even spreading. Thinking of increasing lights to 6 PL(10K) or totally change to 2 x 150W MH. Need some advice which one is suitable. Anyone can help. Btw, I am not thinking of going into SPS.
  10. rrrbot, I am not sure if 150w or 250w is enough for me. I don't have SPS, only softies and LPS and Clams. So, maybe 150W may be enough. Also, not so hot, right. Thanks Ong for your lobang, will check out. AT's offer for his lights is too ex for me but look damn nice and professional.
  11. Thanks Chanbi, Guess I have to look around for another 2nd hand one or DIY. $1200 is too ex for me.
  12. Thanks Phang, I upgrading more for the sake of my three clams. I have mostly soft corals (leather, finger). Only fox and touch need more light so now put them high high.
  13. I'm thinking of upgrading my PL lights to MH for my tank. Anyone got lobang for new or 2nd hand one with 2 bulbs. I'm thinking of the type that I can rest on my tank and not the type that need to hang from the ceiling, cos my wife won't allow me to drill holes. Let me know price also. Not afraid of heat cos I've got a Teco chiller.
  14. Anthias are not recommended for new set-ups. They are sensitive and some species are not easy to feed. Maybe only dispar and tri-colour.
  15. I started on my 4X2X2 for over 18 months on a model 2028 with undergravel and DSB. Till today, everything is fine. However, I change the subtracts in the canister to include ceramic-rings, coral chips, Seagel, polyfilter and filter wool. Nitrite is almost zero. Coral and fish all doing well.
  16. Do I smell gun powder here. I truely appreciate the effort of the founding memebrs of the site for providing us with the avenue for discussion and learning. I'm sure many regular members of this site feel this way too. I hope the site will continue to serve all reef hobbyists, like us and not degenerate into a "who's better" contest. Let's keep this site cordial and friendly, lest we might face the horror of people deserting it. I agree with AT and hope Swfish care to share your knowledge as AT, Tanzy and Morgan has done so selflessly for the past months.
  17. Like those found in FW planted tanks but not as much. Could it be oxygen from photosynthesis?
  18. 15 years ago, saw my businessman dad got persuaded by friends and started a marine tank. He didn't have time to do anything to it. I ended up feeding it live bloodworm and all the clowns and anemones died. Lasted a month only. Had FW fish since then...goldfish...discus(still have). 2 years ago, decided to go back to marine. Started with 2 ft to practice and learn along the way. After half a year, moved to 4X2X2 and did a reef. At first corals not too well. Then added enough lights, added chiller and learn how to arrange corals according to their needs (light and current). Now, stable. No death for half year liao. A spend lots of time visiting LFS and talking with people. Met friends and one told me about this site. Found it fantastic and even gave spoke to Sam's wife about the site at Sealife and gave her the URL. Thanks to AT for starting this, helped me a lot. At least I won't got "ketok" by Rainbow anymore!
  19. My mushroom in the day opn very big and there are strings of tiny bubbles coming out from it. means what?
  20. AT, You have a picture of your wrasses with a cleaner shrimp! Won't the wrasses eat up shrimps. I once got a green wrasses and it consume four of my Cleaner shrimps. In the end, took a long while to get it out. Till now, dare not touch wrasse, not even the fairies among them. Also, I have many anthias, will they fight with the fairies?
  21. What about Sunburst? It is difficult or need special feeding? I have 2 Square (male and female), 3 Tri-colours, one lye-tail, one diapar and one purple queen(never seen this one eat but surviving). Those of getting a sunburst. How to tell male from female?
  22. A bi-colour blenny is both quite cute and small (about 2 inch) and clears the glass of algae but can switch to dry food after a while. My Kole tang is quite hardworking eating algae off my LRs.
  23. I heard these nudibranches only eat sponge? Quite difficult! Once got a spanish dancer. My wife loves it but it disturbs the coral and my cowfish started biting it. In the end, died.
  24. devil, I made the same mistake like you when I started my 2ft more than 2 years ago. Took only three weeks and killed all except one clown in my started-up of about 8 fish. I learn it the hard way then...without advice. Now my 4X2X2 took about 1 yr to reach the stable state.
  25. Tanzy, Need advice on lights from you. My 4x2x2 coral tank is using 2 aqualux PL (10K) and 3 coralife FL (20K, 7.5K, Actinic 03). Corals opening. Enough?
