  1. wait a minute.. u haven't told me your design concept e.g. zen, resort, ocean, high tech, funky, luxury, ornate, pastel, rustic, ethnic, oriental, european, nordic, exotic, tribal, cute-cute, pub, retro..and the list goes on.
  2. Sounds cool. White and blue is the classic colour combi to remind u daily of the sea, provided you use rustic furnishings. Use light coloured wooden furniture (with grain showing) to mimic driftwood washed ashore. Choose light, airy curtains for that bright and breezy effect! Nail a piece of branchy drifwood (raw and unvanished) onto a board and set it above your TV set (like how they display buffalo horns or antlers). Maybe our guys here can donate some of their SPS skeletons or clam shells for coffee table display. Looking at your avatar...aren't you supposed to be more into the grunge look??
  3. Hmm..maybe I can consider charging.. Hall..You must tell me your overall concept first lah.
  4. Haha no lah..sorry if I sounded like one. Just my 2 cents worth
  5. Painting on the woodgrain on the wall would be an overkill. That's over-emphasising on the woods which is already on the floor and furniture. If you must have paint effects, why not try sponging. Or if got money to spare, rough up the wall texture by plastering. Paint effects are something that you may get tired of looking at after some months (same for wall paper), so the safest bet is to hang stuff rather than paint stuff. If a coordinated look is what you are after, work on coordinating the room accesories, not the fixtures, cos accesories are much easier and cheaper to change should your taste change!
  6. Agreed. It's so easily dissolved - like Eno.
  7. I have no idea wat they add!! IMO mixing your own is so much more convenient then lugging the huge container around, not to mention the long drive there.
  8. Orange can be very good especially with woods. But make sure u get those earthy orange and not the bright ones - think santa fe. And don't paint the whole room orange, but use in combination with warm white. Throw in some ethnic fabric floor cushions or lounge chair (facing the fish tank of course).
  9. It's just mother earth releasing her anti-bodies to kill of an invading virus - the homosepians.
  10. The neo tiew farm sells NSW. They filter and cycle the water before selling. They won't sell if its not ready. I also saw them add stuff to it and testing the water parameters.
  11. Sounds like spines from resident bristle worms. Pods are more like tiny white worms wriggling about the place - makes for good fish food.
  12. Really meh?? OH no.. anyway, there is no difference in terms of the filtration mechanism - pump, substrate, wool, compartments - the usual stuff.
  13. Get the Eheim ECCO. No "######" needed and affordable too. In operational temrs, it's like a cross between the professionals model and their basic models, likewise in terms of price. The Eheim ECCO makes priming easy by lever action, and the lever also acts as a handle for you to carry from your cabinet to the bathroom... Funny thing is, when you ask for it in shops, they don't even know about this model! I've used this model for my previous 2-feet tank for a year with absolutely no problems - of course a sump is even better lah. Go check the eheim website for more info on the ECCO.
  14. Teak contains natural oil which is supposed to repel insect infestation. Perhaps your furniture has more or less dried up. Just oil it with teak oil from every few years for easy maintenance. I think a colonial syle teak fish tank cabinet would look interesting.
  15. Meanwhile besides manually removing it, the only other thing you can do is to do more frequent water changes.
  16. Indeed. Their spending power has increased manyfold over the last couple of years. Cuba even saw the first wave of PRC tourists! However despite this trend, the divide between the rich and the poor in China is great - and those that we come across are actually the minority.
  17. Nice, surely no table-banging in this office!
  18. Hi frens, I am thinking of getting the 3-tube ATI T5 lights. However I noticed that it comes with brackets, which will not really fit the hood of my tank. Does anyone have any idea if the brackets can be removed? Another question - how far away from the water surface can the T5 lights be placed before it becomes ineffective? Thanks ..
  19. Hi... bought my sand from that farm opposite Farmart. $5 per 5 kg pack - supposedly treated. The guy also told me about the metal bits in the $6 per 10 kg pack. According to this guy, those white coloured sacks you see with handles are generally "cleaner" (and more exp), as opposed to yellowish sacks without handles. Hope this helps whoever that intends to buy sand. Next I'll have to convince myself that $4 per kg is not too much to pay to save me the trouble of running a magnet through a 5" DSB..
  20. I think it's better to play safe by adding a cover. I kept 2 firefish for a few months thinking that they have settled in. But 1 fine day 1 found myself stepping on ikan-api and the last one jumped out a few days later. So..you'll never know!
  21. I called P*****T, they won't be opened till 31 Jan! Metal bits? How did you remove them? They selling aquarium or industrial grade sand... Thanks for offering, Tanggy. But i think I'll be needing a lot more bags for my 4 ft tank 3 ft sump dsb setup, so i better get my own.
  22. Thanks! I'll give them a call. Hope it's not too exp over at Qianhu.
  23. Hi frens, does anyone know where I can get grade 0 sand? Willing to travel to any corner of the island...
