No, not dying. Expand/contract cycles are normal. Leave it alone and watch for extra stress such as zooxanthellae expulsion or bleaching. Then move to less lighting and/or less water flow area. Look to see if another animal is picking it.

If you are really advanced, need to keep the tank in tune with the lunar cycles. Some people go as far to change the lighting angle. At the minimum, keep in mind a natural reef is never 100% dark.

Good protocol. If you have ich now with nothing new added, then your fish have been experiencing low-level infestation for some time. I would go with large water changes daily. If too much trouble, then at least 2-3 times a week to help keep the parasite population low and give your fish a chance to regain strength.

If you can't find any other cause, it's a pretty good guess the crab is eating the GSP. Very few crabs are obligate eats...most are opportunistic omnivores - eat anything anytime.

You're already doing copper, so just stick with it. Hypo requires 1.009 maximum, any lower and you risk damaging fish. I don't advocate hypo nor copper due to damage to fish. If your tank is cycling, don't bother removing. Need to fix cause, not symptom. Control nutrients.

Any cut needs to be clean and sterile, that's the only requirement. Any tool can, but bone cutters preferred.

Grape algae. The type with round bulbs are quite tasty for humans. The cone-shaped are toxic. You have both, but more of the cone-shaped. I have yellow tang, algae blenny, turbo snails - none eat this stuff. Great for human salad or composting. Like every other plant in your tank, they grow due to nitrates and other nutrients.

There's a very tight margin of error for copper use, so you need to know exact volume of the container you are using. Too little, ich survives. Too much, fish die. Sounds like you're using the display tank for treatment. If you're going to QT any way, why have they not been removed already? This is why I advocate bucket/tank transfer. Anyone can do it properly.
