  1. Interesting that you would say it's become smaller. Are you referring to the period where many people were "nemo crazy"?
  2. Hmm so if I get you correctly, juvenile females are unlikely to fight among themselves and it's only the males that fight? Unfortunately very few angels exhibit sexual dimorphism which is a big problem
  3. Is it possible? I've heard that as long as you have two they will automatically change sex after a period of time.
  4. I wonder if the prices are increasing due to the fish becoming increasingly rare. With better collection methods and greater availability they should actually sell for less imo
  5. Bandit still selling at 600? I believe the price range is from 800-1600 now am I correct?
  6. The tiger angelfish is one of my favourites, and I understand juveniles are nearly impossible to obtain. What size are those sold normally at? Anyone has success with them overseas? (I know we have yet to import them locally)
  7. after much consideration, I'm able to get some bandit angelfish from rufus himself. from reading the info on the forums I gather that most success has been obtained in the low 20s. will this affect my other fishes that are more accustomed to warmer temperatures? I have several long nose filefish (feeding well on my own prepared food), a gold flake angel, singapore angel, a scribbled angel (all juveniles about an inch long), a papuan toby and a tassel filefish. they are currently in a 100gal grow out tank, and I will be able to transfer them to a 300 and 500gal progressively as they grow (I already have these spare tanks). would appreciate all info, especially from bandit angelfish keepers!
  8. Has anyone used this product to cure bleached corals? Anyone knows where to buy this locally? I also understand that its possible to culture zooxanthellae. Has anyone tried this before?
  9. Yeah very expensive. It says that the bags can "heal" themselves from fish punctures etc. If that's indeed the case, one might be able to reuse the bags to make them more economical
  10. wow, extremely interesting information! are these available locally?
  11. I believe that in lfs, pure oxygen is pumped into the bags with fish to ensure an adequate supply of oxygen. Are there other ways that hobbyists can transport fish without having that oxygen pump? I sometimes see anglers with a styrofoam box and a pump to hold live saltwater bait fish. Is this a viable method or will it result in high casualties?
  12. Anyone knows of any lfs which imports from ORA aqua farm? They have lots of captive bred fishes!
  13. they look absolutely stunning! anyone knows which lfs has them? http://www.orafarm.com/products/algae/hypnea/
  14. Might be lack of algae, improper acclimatisation etc. doubt it would be due to contact
  15. Hi, anyone has the hp number for t-95? Can't get through through the landline
  16. It would be great if they made some heat resistant hybrids of these subtropical orchids. Not sure if such things are available though.
  17. In recent years, due to the decrease in parent colonies of elk horn and stag horn corals, there has been an increase in hybrid formation between the two species due to a smaller chance of fertilisation between the same species and an increase in cross fertilisation. These happen to be viable hybrids. I was wondering if hybrid corals are produced artificially for aquariums, potentially producing new and beautiful species.
  18. Agreed, would like to know the running cost. Many of these greenhouses are made in tw and control humidity too. In terms of flowering, some orchids could be induced to flower with temp drops while others are left outside. The rotation will ensure that there are always flowers to look at. Many of the new phal hybrids have flowers that last a few months too, apparently.
  19. Does anyone know where I can get them? Marine life is out of stock and madpetz doesn't carry them anymore. Reef depot does not sell the kits to end users. Honestly these are the most accurate kits I have used.
  20. wow, thanks for sharing! may I know where you got your greenhouse from? agree with you on the temp drop. there are contradictions though. some people say that phals should not be kept below 22 degrees or above 28 degrees, however some nurseries commonly keep them between 15-25 degrees.
  21. hehe every time you got spare algae can give me, I love it!
  22. to do own cultivation in flasks requires a fume hood and sterile conditions. not sure if such devices are available to the general public haha also one has to cultivate the fungus for the germination of the orchid
  23. One thing I noticed is that due to cloning and mass cultivation, orchid growers have been enjoying diminishing returns on their investment. Not good news for hobby growers too. Prices of orchids are steadily decreasing.
  24. I have a question. Within the same hybrid can there be vast differences in flower size? My vanda yellow magic has small flowers while some have flowers approximately 50% larger. Is this due to the age of the orchid? Meaning older orchids produce larger flowers?
  25. haha thanks! would also be awesome to visit tainan, lanyu island and chiayi province in taiwan to view the orchids. they are the biggest producer of orchids in the world
