  1. Well, you could do a kalk injection straight into the core. The alternative is to get a Copperband Butterfly. I solved my with the injection and have not seen them again. *touch wood*
  2. Functionally, if it is a covered hood, it could help prevent fishes from jumping out.

  4. Hey dominik, Red slime is typically cause by water parameters. Presence of phosphates and nitrates would add to the problem. For immediate solution, there is a powder called Red Slime Remover that does the job well and fast. For longer term solution, keep water parameters good, and if poss, use RO/DI water and run a phospate remover (eg. Rowaphos). Hope it helps!
  5. Hey minireef, Algae outbreaks are typical of new tanks, when water parameters and flow are not yet stabilized and controlled. Even older tanks may get a small outbreak of two when there is death. Key thing is that it should go away IF you continue to keep water parameters down (make sure your test kits are done properly) esp nitrates and phosphates, ensure enough flow. One way to stop micro-algae would be to use a UV sterilizer, but it is not recommended for new tanks like yours. Algae-eaters would also help, eg turbos, sea hare, lawnmover, etc. Patience, and lots of care.
  6. Any reason why you do not want to increase salinity? I think with this SG and temperature, all you can work with are hardy soft corals.
  7. Do the bubbles just stay there and not burst/go away? Could be a sign of high organic content in your water. How's your skimming?
  8. Black backgrounds will give an impression of depth and provide good contrast for the color of your corals and fish. The clear back will show wires/cables running at the back ... if you have any. If not, it'll just show the color of your walls. Either way, you'll soon have coralline all over, do it could end up as a purple background.
  9. If you are continuing with FOWLR, and nitrates are not a major concern, then the top filter should be barely functional. However, you need to make sure your filter media is sufficient to support the bioload. Again, without any more details/specifics, this is just a broad comment.
