Thanks for the replies .... so far water temp is not an issue cos not using chiller cos FOWLR tank.. as for NO3, it is at 2.5ppm for the tank .... but actually did not check the tap/aged water.... will do next time i change water .. then can see how good my tap water is Thanks shoelevy.. As for iodine levels .. i dont have the testkits .... just dump the 'trace elements' that comes wif corallife salt and hopes that it is enough .. Maybe time to look into getting 'trace elements' stuff to supplement my tank ... hmmm .. Oh well ... lets hope Henry brings in cleaners soon

Circumstances to my cleaner shrimp's death (was known as shrimpy) 1. Saw that it has molted last night ... empty shell on the sandbed in the morning. 2. Decide to change water ard 15 - 18% (roughly half was aged for 8 hrs, all was treated wif Seachem prime(0.4 ml for ~20L)). It is for the CNY period. 3. Everything was done as normal until . ... i start to add in the newly made salt water into the sump (for mixing wif 'old' salt water b4 pumping up to main tank) and started the pump to recirculate the water from sump to main tank. 4. The cleaner shrimp died ..... it was found drifting ard on the sandbed minutes after the new water was added... The salinity for the newly made water and tank is the same .... method of changing water had been used for months .. shrimpy survived for 4 months+, tank now 8 months old. And the other shrimp, a ###### shrimp (aka Miss ######) remains very much ######-shaking alive Thus the onli conclusion i can arrive at is that ... DO not change water when cleaner shrimps molt ..... it may lead to their death. Btw, this is my logical assumption ... just like to share this info so that shrimps can be saved from such deaths. Please correct me if i am wrong .. cos would like to learn b4 i make such mistakes again. P.S. All other livestocks are ok (1x coral beauty, 1x Flame Angel, 1x ######), hammer remains open and lively during the change.

Yup ,.... presently in NTU Astro club .. previously using stars to navigate while sailing ard 3-4 yrs back. Still like looking at Jupiter and its moons using C8 ... Saturn also quite nice. P.S. I think my avatar nicer

Well ... if u look at it scientifically, we humans are present on Earth for 0.0001 % of Earth's history (13 billion yrs), of which billions of species of life had evolved and then wiped out by various causes before us. (Not to mention that homo sapiens did quite a good job at making other species extinct ) Thus for that Doomsday to come, a strike by a HUGE meteor from space would be the 1st possible event that comes to mind that will wipe out a whole lot of us, since it happpened b4 to the dinosaurs with the KT impact. 2nd possible is the onset of yet another ice age ... though depends on which group of scientists u believe .. i believe that we are in a rather mild ice age .. with the help of homo sapiens bringing global warming ..... maybe it'll get worse 3rd one is the shifting of magnetic poles ... since according to some research (forgot where i read this), Earth's magnetic poles shifts (North pole becomes South etc) every few 100,000 yrs and we are actually overdue for that shift .. during that shift (dunno how long it takes) i guess many of us will be zapped to death by harmful cosmic rays 4th is a long shot .... waiting for yellowstone park to blow up (Giant vocanic eruption) which will then cover the Earth wif ashes and stuff ... or anyother active volcanos for that matter. ... Yellowstone park cos IT is a very large crater and i get to live a while longer Well ... to all that, think Doomsday dont have to wait for a string of unrelated events cos when shit hits the fan, there's no usually no warning. This i understand fully cos one fine day last yr oct, after missing Silver in my IPPT run by 20secs, fit and healthy; the next day, i was dianogised wif cancer.. All in all ... good to think about doomsday, then live life to the fullest every single day, go forth and do wat u really want to do, Live wifout regrets. P.S. Almost 3 months since the start of my tank. All liverocks are bought from fellow reefer, thus all the corals are 'hitch-hikers'. Even have one oyster FOC Front view of the tank.

i see... just worried that it will attract MORE mosquitoes then normal ... which will not be a good thing .. to be kana bitten by them .. Maybe DIY mosquito netting over sump .. heh heh Thanks for the info pple!! At least now i know it is not an isolated event.

Hi, Having the 'problem' of mosquitoes buzzing ard my sump and dying in the sump (5-7 per week). Though they are not breeding(cant see any lauva), thinking of getting rid of the problem. Any suggestions other than pesticide suggested by my father (obviously objected by me )?

Hi, Had cultured several bottles of plankton (nano Strain). Have observed that the plankton will settle in ard 24 - 48 hrs time, leaving a distinct layer of clear water on top, and denser plankton below. Is this normal? Will appreciate any assistance. thanks

If you had incorporated a ball-valve, can try to slowly close the ball valve until gurgling sound is at a minimum without reducing your flow-rate. My angle of turn is ard 30 degrees, no loud sounds liao...
