  1. My parameters remain as is albeit with a higher PH level probably due to the chaeto working. I even took a sump water test and a display tank water test for good measure
  2. Some bad news today after the loss of the baby blue tang, I found my tang on its side this morning. I did a water test which I will share later but for this post just the fish. I know that it had some confrontations with the cleaner shrimp but not sure if these injuries near the eye are sufficient proof that to suspect the shrimp is responsible. Blue tang was also hanging around some of the rock work and the shrimp has been more adventurous these days. This fish would hide in the cave most of the time for the past day.
  3. Just as an update. Unfortunately Dory did not make it. It was a learning lesson for me that I should not get fishes at such young ages. The rest of the fish I got that day are doing fine, save for the tang that is having some occasional turf wars with the cleaner shrimp.
  4. I got a 200XL too. I waited two months as advised by the shop I got it from. I took the chance to gather info and knowledge about reefing in the meantime and also to gather any parts second hand that I needed. Oh yes and it was also time for me to soften the ground for the missus. From confessing to the purchase, to slowly hinting it's arrival to informing her where I was going to place the tank. LOL
  5. Yes it is. In retrospect it was a stupid purchase. My ammonia and Nitrate are low. As the fish is very young it is hard to look see if there is velvet. I made a make shift container and placed it in the sump where the current might not be an issue. Hope that works for it.
  6. Hi All, I got a small blue tang the other day. It started out very shy and tried to hide in the wave maker when it was off. I drove it out of there and kept the wavemaker on so it won't go in again. Due to its small size, it was hard to tell if it was eating. We would occasionally see him chase food but not sure if he caught it. I eventually tried some nori in the water and it took some bites as it floated past. Had it for a week todate and the past 2 days it was in hiding, wedged in small crevices in the rock work. This evening it was tucked into a small cavity in the rocks. Not sure what went wrong, it did not seem like it was struggling the time it was about swimming. I don't have an isolation container so not sure what I can do now.
  7. Hi all, not sure if this has been discussed but I thought I wanted to get some thoughts from the rest on livestock shopping online as restrictions start to get tighter. I mean I was supposed to be shopping for a starfish yesterday after taking leave but I never left the house as my wife was concerned about the community cases. How did members get through the circuit breaker and phase one last year? Are there any shops that have a full catalogue of stable livestock you can choose from and purchase online? How was the experience? Stay safe everyone.
  8. A little worried for this guy. He is very small and it is hard to tell if he is skinny or fat because of the way blue tangs look. Sometimes observe him chasing food but not sure if he manages to eat.
  9. Water test again to see how the water is doing. Chaeto didn’t have much effect probably because I only switched on the fuge light from 2 am to 6 am. Tonight I will likely do the whole night cycle.
  10. Yes I watched many YouTube videos before I decided to get the wave maker and they did mention the magnet. My wave makers I probably need to toggle. I have them directed at my rock work which all is epoxy down. Just that there are some dead spots in the tank. Thanks for your kind words. I am also looking forward to your set up being done!
  11. Is your Jebao wavemaker a wifi version? Any ideas how to lower the flow strength? I am running 20s on both sides of my 2ft cube but the app only appears to allow me to lower it to 30%. I was thinking of programming a setting for night and also for feeding instead of turning off.
  12. Latest water test. Now also testing for phosphate. Have added the chaeto from a kind reefer, will see if there is any change after the night cycle starts. Skimmer seems to be working but still skimming some water. Hoping I am in the right direction. Salinity seems to have dropped, would this be something I should be concerned about?
  13. Thanks all for the feedback. Will keep a look out
  14. Today should be water test day but will need the family members to be around to see the colors. Dory the blue tang is a little anal about timings and will only come out when my day cycle light comes on. Otherwise he will be in hiding. Turns out Blue tangs are like that. I hope he is able to grab some bites of the food. I also got a shock to find the shell of my skunk cleaner. I thought it had up lorry over the night. Turns out it just molted. Today I hope to be able to meet a kind reefer for a donation of chaeto. My skimmer is still a mystery. Thanks to the patience of another reefer whom I regularly update and he gives advice.
  15. Thanks Luenny and Mhcraft! I am just starting out so still finding my way. Feeding video because a colleague at office asked for it. Not sure why the fish prefer to hang around the side closer to the window. Loud dog barking midway through the video warning. Yeah the wife has a poodle who challenges anyone who goes past to a fight. IMG_3273.MOV
  16. Thanks Subzero and Winnard. My wife is the one who is interested... She is wondering if later can eat. LOL... She was looking at my cleaner shrimp....
  17. Sweet! Thanks will take a look if I can. How has the experience been keeping the abalone? Very sensitive?
  18. Hi all, now that my wife has bitten the aquarium bug, she asked if I could keep an abalone in my fish tank. LOL! Anyone done so successfully and also where can I find one?
  19. Just a few pictures of the fish in the tank Pardon the blue coloration. Maybe when the special phone lenses come in I can do a proper one. There are 2 clowns, one algae eating tang(forgot the name but supposed to be a hard worker), 2 fire fish(they are paired so I didn't have the heart to separate them from the shop), 4 pajamas, 10 trochus snails, one skunk cleaner shrimp hiding in the over hangs. Yes there is a baby blue tang, the shop said that they grow to the size of the tank so I will see how it goes. Poor chap was all alone and would hide in the caves and even once got into my wave maker when I turned it off. Eventually got pissed and drove him out of there and kept the wavemakers on. My daughter kept saying maybe we should get another but I don't think so. Eventually, he kind of paired up with the 2 clowns so without hesitation it was named Dory despite me telling my daughter to not name them until a week later incase they don't make it. Now my challenge is figuring out the skimmer which a kind reefer is advising me. Hope to get it working soon.
  20. Water test today after risking it and adding a load of livestock. Parameters seem to be stable with live stock inside for 24 hours. All swimming happily.
  21. Hi All, Hoping to set up a Refugium in my sump. Looking for any kind fellow reefers who can spare some in Sengkang region. Punggol is also fine. Thank you.
  22. Hi All, I got a Nyos Skimmer off a fellow reefer. Now trying to figure out how to set it up, the skimmer is skimming water. I tried the manual and doesn't seem to help much. Looking for any reefers who are using the same skimmer how you did it. I also tried raising the skimmer so that the water level is lower.
  23. It appears my ammonia has fallen to zero, but I am worried that the bacteria died during the 6-7 hours that the pumps were not working. Am I ready for fish? Ok so here is the creepy part. I can’t identify why the switches went off, but my wife who has heightened senses says there is a little girl spirit in my home. She is usually seen at my fresh water tank. But in recent days she is also spotted peeking into the marine tank. Because there is no other reason, we suspect it was her who played with the switches. She means no harm but I did say loudly that what she did would disrupt the cycling of the tank. Hope she doesn’t do it again. I believe she also is looking forward to the tank being stocked... what do you think? End creepy part....
  24. Water test today. Something strange happened when I was at work. My Red Sea app sent me a prompt saying that my tank was not connected to the internet. I thought my family accidentally unplugged the modem so left it as it is and continued to work. When I came home I noticed that the switches to my light, return pump and wave makers were all switched off. I asked my family members if anyone had touched the switches and no one had done so. There is no way those switches were turned off by accident as they are tucked into a corner between the tank and the sofa. Creepy part of the story later...
  25. Latest water test. I hope that it is trending in the right direction. Wondering if I should start chaeto to remove the nitrate?
