  1. Well mine didn't... just that if another pistol shrimp comes close to the bullseye's territory, they will make a very loud "TAK!" and both will jump away from each other, like kenna electric shocked... very interesting. But no harm to either pistol shrimps. Like i said, my bullseye is a loner... doesn't bother anyone and no one bothers with him either.
  2. Very very hardy... If you can keep the tiger pistol shrimp or the Randall (candy cane) pistol shrimp without any problems, bullseye shouldn't be a problem at all. But the bad thing is, the bullseye is very shy. Always hiding... other pistol shrimps at least come out once in a while.. my bullseye i see only during feeding time. And it is a loner... does not associate with any goby.
  3. Oh no, how did the goby end up in 2 halves?
  4. Definitely you should quarantine your new fishes in a separate tank, otherwise it defeats the purpose of having quarantine. Websites usually suggest a quarantine of minimum 2 weeks, plus a freshwater dip before putting the fish into the quarantine tank. I don't exactly agree with the freshwater dip though... causes unnecessary stress to the fish and also has questionable effect on preventing disease. If kenna ich transfer your affected fishes into quarantine tank again and lower the S.G of the water in the quarantine tank to 1.009, keeping them like that for 6 weeks. Freshwater dipping at this stage won't help at all.
  5. Small yellow tangs cost around $22-$25 at ah beng's... they don't have it this week though. Purple tangs i have no idea..
  6. Serious. I bought 2 pistol shrimps together from them, a bullseye and a red pistol shrimp. $2 each. I was very surprised too at the price, considering the $25 that Henry quoted me. Maybe it crawled out from a piece of their liverock so they put it up for sale??
  7. Hmm.. I got my bullseye pistol shrimp from Paradiz Reef for $2 leh.. i was quoted $25 at Marine Life though.
  8. Which is very unfortunate, since it is the most beautiful batfish of all, in my opinion. I see it now and then in LFSes, but never dared to try.
  9. The copperband is another fish that is notoriously difficult to get to start feeding.. low long term survival prospects, unfortunately. Supposed to be good at finishing up the pest Aiptasia anemones on your liverocks though.. but also whatever featherduster worms you may happen to have. Have you tried live foods? Live brine shrimps? Live tubifex worms? In my experience, i find that butterflyfishes love live tubifex worms, the 20 cents a packet kind used to feed small freshwater fishes.
  10. Oh, and another thing... in my experience, wrasses that are about to die will invariably emerge from the sand before dying on the sand bed. So if you do not see your wrasses at all, it is highly unlikely that they have died, unless of course they jumped out of the tank.
  11. This is indeed a very difficult fish to keep alive, as the websites suggest. Take a look at this: Wetwebmedia webbie I think we should set up a thread, describing all the fishes/inverts that are difficult to keep alive in captivity... my vote goes to the Red Coris Wrasse.
  12. Yes, don't worry, one of the key behaviour characteristics of wrasses is that they tend to bury themselves in the sand... every night (to sleep, in which case they'll come out the next morning), and also whenever they feel threatened. However, if your wrasse stays buried in the sand for too long (eg. days), it means it is ill.
  13. Happy New Year to all fellow reefers! Anyone knows if Reborn is open today (1/1/06)? Do they have the longnose hawkfish in stock?
  14. Went to iwarna in the evening... didn't see any longnose hawkfish leh... Got a few purple tangs though, but all big/medium size ones left. Guess i was too late liao. Ah Beng's shop got only 1 longnose hawkfish, and i was quoted a price of $18 for it... which i thought was overpriced liao so i didn't buy in the end.
  15. How much are the purple tangs and the longnose hawkfish selling for?
  16. Reborn got a small stingray and guitarfish on sale... very cute! Guitarfish:
  17. Any new stock updates from ah beng's (or any of the pasir ris LFSes)?
  18. Err.. i went on both thursday and yesterday (friday), didn't see any leh.. at the big tubs where they usually put the cuttlefish there were instead longhorn cowfishes and 3 big porcupine puffers.
  19. Yup, you're right... trigger fishes should be kept in a FOWLR tank, w/o invertebrates like shrimps or crabs. Well, i have 3 marine tanks at home..
  20. No cuttlefish or octopus at Ah Beng's (pasir ris) this week though... i think these creatures are very seasonal one..
  21. Hmm.. how about wrasses, clowns, tangs and angels? I feed them everyday cos they seem to be very active fellas. Or can they be fed every alternate day?
