  1. YES! That's the frogfish i was referring to! Very nice, but i dare not ask for the price. Oh, forgot to add.. Ah Beng's got a few stingrays too; the small, manageble size. But also dunno the price. And also a wierd fish that i thought looks like a baby crocodile, never seen before.. it's in the tank together with the stingrays.
  2. Well it depends alot on the type of fish, but try to provide a variety. I feed my fishes pellets, flakes as well as frozen seafood (the type we eat). Seafoodwise, i alternate between fish and tiger-prawn, and occasionally for large carnivorous fishes like triggerfishes, squid too. Of course, must tear the meat into tiny pieces, depending on the size of the fish. Can mix everything together and blend into a paste to feed the fishes too, though i've never tried that before. Certain fishes like tangs and angelfishes need veggies in their diet as well. What i normally do is to leave a whole caixin or lettuce leaf, tied to a small piece of rock, at the bottom of the tank. My yellow tang and emperor angel will then nibble constantly at the leaf, till at the end of the day, there'll only be the stalk left. Even then, this leafy diet should also be supplemented with small quantities of seafood every alternate day. Hope the above helps! Lots cheaper than feeding brine shrimp too, since everything is taken from the food we eat.
  3. Ah Beng's got one black tang... but XXL size... i think you'll need at least a 6 feet tank to house it properly.. Also got 1 nice, totally red frogfish. Purple tangs much fewer than yesterday. Maybe distributed to other LFSes liao... Lots of different types of angelfishes too. Pistol shrimps still available. But Randall (candy-cane) pistol shrimp i think only got 2 left.
  4. I like groupers too... I've kept both the polka-dot grouper and a black one with white spots before. Very interesting fellas. Try feeding them live freshwater shrimps, and watch them stalk and attack their prey..
  5. I target-feed the slow eaters.. What i do is to put the food (usually prawn meat) at the tip of a long chopstick. Prawn meat when defrosted is naturally sticky, so it won't fall off the tip of the chopstick. I then insert the chopstick within a long hollow tube. After which, i'll put the whole apparatus into the water, with the food end at where the slow-eating fish is, and wait for the slow-eater to get the food. If the fast fishes swims over and tries to get the food, i'll quickly withdraw the chopstick (with the food still at the tip) into the tube, so the fast fish can't get the food. After the fast fish swims away, i'll stick out the tip of the chopstick (with the food on it) from the tube again for the slow fish to eat. Hope i didn't confuse everyone with my poor description.. ...but i find this method really effective. Abit more time consuming, but i find it helps to avoid overfeeding the fast fishes while ensuring the slow ones get their share.
  6. Hmmm.. the only use of feeding brine shrimps to fishes is for those fishes who simply refuse to eat anything else.. and they are only used as a temporary measure before the fish starts to accept alternative, more nutritious foods. This is because brine shrimps, whether live or frozen, are very very poor in nutrients... and definitely should not be the permanent diet of the fish.
  7. I notice that different species of pistol shrimps vary greatly in terms of their hardiness.. For instance, the Randall pistol shrimp and the tiger pistol shrimps are generally more delicate (die more easily) than the Bullseye or the red pistol shrimps.
  8. Mebbe can try giving them a call to enquire? But i guess the odds are very high that they will be open on sat lar... cos many uncles who buy fishes do not celebrate christmas.
  9. Purple Tangs are mostly aroung 5-10cm, i estimate. Got alot, 20-30... or maybe even more, as they were still unpacking when i was there.
  10. Just came back from Ah Beng's... Scribble Angel got a few left, medium/small one $160, large one $200.. Lots of pistol shrimps too, tiger pistol shrimp, Randall Pistol shrimp... all going for $5 each, which is less than half of what some LFS are selling theirs for. Better still, they have some Yasha goby-Randall Pistol shrimp pairs on sale. Other fishes: - Assorted angelfishes (Regal angel, emporer angel...) - Lots of PURPLE TANGS!! <chiong ah! > -> Just came in this afternoon - Assorted gobies - Spiny blue lobster, purple reef lobster - Common boxer shrimps
  11. Nope, i don't remember seeing any at Reborn this afternoon.
  12. Got. I just came back from Reborn, they still have several Queen Angels, very beautiful, but all XL size. Otherwise, Reborn's tanks very empty (as of this afternoon).
  13. Octopuses are worse... they're forever trying to escape from the tank.
  14. Ok, next time i'm going to Sentosa with a net...
  15. I had a recent ich outbreak in my tank, and decided to treat the disease with the hyposalinity treatment, reducing the salinity to 1.009. It was ok for the first day, except that i noticed that my True Percula clown had become more lethargic than usual, though still eating. This morning when i looked at my tank again, i saw that the clown had pop-eye both sides, and its stomach was super bloated.. dead. This was exactly the same situation as had happened a year ago, when i instituted hyposalinity treatment for a similar ich outbreak. The clownfish and the niger trigger also became popeye, bloated stomach and died subsequently. Reading the available material online, popeye and bloated stomach are not signs of ich infection. It was notable that my other fishes (yellow tang, jawfish and emperor angel) undergoing hypo now do not have these bloatedness at all, so it seems that some fishes can tolerate hypo better than others. Anyone has any similar experience? Or noticed any side effects with hyposalinity treatment?
  16. Well, I've kept cuttlefish before.. Websites and books tend to describe them as very delicate creatures, but in my experience, my cuttlefish was quite hardy.. Very interesting fella, especially during feeding time... When it spots its prey, its body colour will change in a rippling manner, with a whole myriad of colours sweeping along its entire body like waves, very beautiful. It will then swim slowly over to the prey, and when it is close enough, will shoot out 2 very long tentacles to grab the prey, lightning fast, very fascinating. That is why i recommend anyone keeping cuttlefish to try feeding it live food, in order to witness this very fascinating behaviour. I used to feed him live freshwater glass shrimp as well as live mollies, which he absolutely loves. One thing about keeping cuttlefishes.. you must provide them with live rocks and shelter for them to hide.. cos they get frightened very easily, such as when you suddenly switch on the lights. Mine squirted ink when i switch on the room lights, not even the tank lights. And regular water changes are a must, or else i think the ink when accumulated in the water will kill the cuttlefish. Another thing... if you keep a cuttlefish, it absolutely has to be kept alone... it will eat ANY other fish/shrimp/crab that is small enough for it to eat, and will probably get stressed to death by any fish that it cannot eat and which harresses it. Oh, and other than at feeding time, it is a very inactive creature. It will change into the colour of either the sand or the live rock, and stay there hardly moving at all.. until it sees food, that is. I sometimes have trouble spotting it when it is camouflaged. Btw, may i ask where you saw the cuttlefish? I got mine from Pasir Ris fish farm for $12 some months back..
  17. It turned out to be ich... Woke up this morning to find the red coris wrasse dead, and white spots all over the fins of the emperor angel. Thankfully the emperor still eating.. I fed it its usual seafood mixed with garlic, and also lowered the S.G. to 1.013... hopefully it will survive the attack..
  18. I got a small red coris wrasse about 8 days ago and it was ok till these 2 days, when i noticed that it started to scratch against the LR and sandbed about every 5min or so. There was otherwise no white spots on its body and it was active and eating hungrily as usual. I keep it in a FOWLR with a yellow tang and a juvenile emporer angel, both of which appear very healthy and do not have this scratching behaviour or white spots. So i'm wondering: Does scratching = Ich? Or is there any other explanation to the behaviour? Anyone has any experience with this before?
  19. Got! I just came back from Reborn, got lots of mandarinfishes, different types. Can go check them out.. look quite healthy too. But i dunno how much they're selling for. Reborn also has many many emporer angelfishes, bought 1 today, lots left. All very healthy and exhibiting feeding behaviour. Quite reasonable price too, $20 for those with the blue juvenile coloration. Those wanting to buy adult ones Reborn has also. Besides, Reborn also has many angelfishes of different species. Too bad when i went the new shipment hasn't arrived.. Can anyone going later update us on the new shipment coming in today?
  20. Oh, then different liao.. the miniata grouper is more beautiful than the cherry grouper, i feel. Thanks anyway! Oh, Sealife is along Balestier Road.. It's behind the Communicable Disease Centre (CDC).. Along that main road behind CDC, you'll see a Hotel 81 on your right and slightly further down, a small old hotel called Hoover Hotel. In between these 2 hotels there's a small dead-end road branching off from the main road. Sealife is just at the end of that dead-end road. Hope the directions will be useful..
  21. Sealife: - Achille's Tang! Several there, feeding on lettuce eagerly. But XXL size. - Lots of pinktail triggerfishes - Lots of naso tangs - Lots of Emporer Angelfishes, all juvenile colouration The rest i can't remember liao... didn't catch my attention
  22. Yup, they are coral trout.. Thanks thanks! I'll go there to take a look..
  23. Anyone spotted miniata grouper? If got please tell me.. Thanks alot!
