  1. Another thing about the algae... Some people use an algae magnet to 'kiap' their tang fodder and drag it into the bottom of the tank. I think you could use a mag-float... It is completely sealed with plastic right?
  2. Well, the title says it all... Where? No thank you to stainless steel probes please. They eventually degrade.....
  3. Dwarfs are very sensitive to copper. I also heard that Coppersafe is one of the lousiest coppers. Maybe it would be better to use the seachem one in future? Heard its the best one.
  4. Not roots actually, holdfasts. Don't absorb anything.
  5. It sounds pretty reliable!
  6. Interesting idea, Adrianli. Can tell us more about how you made it?
  7. I'm interested in seeing what the brave souls look like but I think I would seriously freak out if strangers started approaching me on the roadside and said Hi, knowing my name : Anyway, Name: my username lah! Age: 14 Occupation: what else but student Interests: Marine tanks(or I wouldn't be here ) , ornamental bettas, orchids (but no money to burn in that area- have an impressive total sum of 2 orchids ), digital photography, etcetcetcetc... Started betta keeping: 8yrs old Marine fish: June 2001 Orchids: June 2002
  8. Only on Sunday? Do you happen to know which tibs bus? Thanks
  9. Hi, kelstorm... Actually in terms of $$$ I'm poorer than you:( My tank survives on my pocket money.... How old are you btw? Pasir Ris Brackish Fishing pond has tons of guppies/mollies swimming around and easy to catch with a net. No payment for those needed! Just pretend to be a friend of one of the fishermen and scoop up little fish after the people who check rod tag come around(Maybe once an hour?) Perfect for cycling. RMX, it's much easier to get a small air-operated skimmer. A word of caution, powerheads shred animals in such a tiny tank and generate quite a lot of heat(I somehow doubt you'll use them as heaters though!) A deep sand bed in a tiny tank is not a good idea. You'll want as much space as possible. 1" is fine with a skimmer. But put the rocks before the sand for stability. And forget about 'sloping' like freshwater tanks use. It all levels out in the end.
  10. Can you email(hongqixian@hotmail.com) or PM me the collection place and time. I want a coralife 10000k and a coralife actinic. It must have been luck because I was just about to buy a new tube for my PL hood. Are they absolutely brand new?
  11. I think that goldfishes, parrot fish, show fighting fish and all other fishes bred like luo hans would be considered just as bad as luo hans... But luo hans are still better than parrot fish and goldfish, at least they can swim properly! Still, better not say any more on this or this thread'll get chucked to Kopi-Tiam.....
  12. Hi! This is a friendly forum so feel free to post any questions you might have, eg. about an animal you wish to get. But please read up on previous threads to see if your question has already been discussed!
  13. Yep... Patience! Actually for non-antibiotic meds and supplements, you can use them at 1/2 dosage. Safer. There's a product on the market called Greenex to cure ich and things like that. I read from a forum that the dosage stated on the label is much more than the actual dosage you need and it kills brittle stars and certain starfish. It is the chemical like meth blue but not blue, the green one(I forgot the name) Just a warning! and btw, nice tank you've got there, even without fish and the corals supposed to be less healthy than before.
  14. Please don't use fish to cycle the tank! It's cruel. You can cycle it with live rock alone but remember to check the rock for animal pests before adding into your tank to minimize pests.
  15. http://saltaquarium.about.com/library/week...y/aa072999d.htm This page has a section on nitrate reduction and DIY denitrator coils.
  16. Are they also called candy shrimps? I didn't know that Anyway the sci name is Rhynchocinetes uritai or similar species. It looks like the atlantic Peppermint shrimps. I had some but died in a tank crash. Lucky for me I found out soon after that they ate corals. Never did buy any more.
  17. It would be easier to rinse and then chop up/mash frozen krill/mysis if the tiny bits are wanted
  18. I would be interested in the refugium idea. How much would it cost to make a sump that can mount neatly on a 2ft 5 Plan Tank?
  19. The skunk cleaners will pick at coral mouths to get food if they are not kept well-fed, mine did
  20. The cc would eventually move above the sugar sand.
  21. I like the about.com salt forums best because the moderator does not interfere so much except delete posts that have a high amount of vulgarities or intense insults. Flame posts are kept down by the participants when they debate it out and mutually agree to stop arguing and I have not encountered any deleting of posts just because the moderator does not agree I used to be very active there but had to cut down because I started betta keeping again and joined a few new forums as well as this one
