  1. Actually, it's an a.sameonsis. It's a staple coral in Walt Smith SPS shipments.
  2. For newly made artificial saltwater, just run a small powerhead in the saltwater container for half a day and after that you can leave it stagnant until you do your water change.
  3. Oh I had the impression that Red Planet is a hardy SPS coral after reading this piece in reefbuilders: http://reefbuilders.com/2011/08/29/ora-red-planet-table-acro/ Yes, I am keen on a red planet frag along with the blue mille but I think I have to wait until Christmas as I really want the rest of the frags I got from you (and a few others from iwarna) to grow more. All 4 frags I got from you have shown slight growth after a week - the fastest is surprisingly the purple valida and not the digitatas!
  4. The blue encrusting humilis or millepora has a very unique shape like a wide "V". The encrustation is superb!
  5. haha now I know! It will end up pretty dark for our wallets! BTW, any chance of selling red planet acro frags for your next sales bash?
  6. Unfortunately, budget is tight for TS. I have a reef tank which is exactly the same size and I use a 1 HP drop-in coil chiller. Heat and noise are all emitted outside (I put the compressor in my balcony) and the tank gets cooled from 27 C to 25C in 22-25 minutes and the compressor kicks in after 2.5 hours.
  7. Interesting.....why are SPS corals considered the "dark side"? To me, it should be the "good or light side" of reefkeeping!
  8. My favourite SPS tank of all time - owned by Scarab a former forummer here who has sadly left the hobby. Cedric, do you have something like the large blue staghorn colony at the topmost background portion?
  9. Wow, I have never seen a tricolour mille such as this. Will target this and the royal blue mille frag when my current frags have encrusted and grown a bit.
  10. Thanks Cedric All the frags that I got from you are superglued on to the rockscape and settling down with visible polyp extension - hope they encrust sooner rather than later and grow. Next targets will be your montis, stylo and that royal blueX2 "stick".
  11. Okay, I succumb to temptation! I will buy three blue frags from you. Do let me know of an appropriate time and day for me to come to your place.
  12. Thanks bro. I checked my nutrient levels and NO3 and PO4 levels are undetectable with salifert test kits => note to other forummers: these are not the best test kits in the market unlike Lamotte and Hanna checkers. I have a pink hystrix frag and a pink millepora frag which are keeping their pink colours so I am very tempted to buy a couple of blue or purple frags from you to try out.
  13. It certainly helps! By the way, do you dose potassium in any form? I read that a lack of potassium will affect blue and purple colouration in sps corals.
  14. Thanks for sharing your methods bro! I have one question regarding blue acros - how do you keep the colours, especially those deep blue ones?
  15. The frags all are doing well and the mandarin orange frag has grown a new head. By the way, for your SPS frag tanks, are you utilizing a calcium reactor or using a dosing pump to dose Ca,Alk, Mg, Kalk?
  16. The reducing number of participants and visitors is a worrying trend - it was very noticeable for those who attended the 2009 and 2011 shows. Another reason why I very much doubt the reef "gurus" in the US and Europe will pay a visit to Singapore again.
  17. Not sure if Jake Adams, Julian Sprung etc will be at Aquarama 2013 - it's a long way to travel for them. As for me, it was a pleasure to have met them in person, in particular Julian as I am a big fan of his "The Reef Aquarium" series.
  18. Great looking SPS frags as usual I have to wait for a few more months before I am ready to keep SPS corals - need some time to reload my bullets after emptying my wallet on tank setup. p.s. Spoke to Scarab and Danano recently but sadly they said that they have lost their passion for SPS corals and won't meet up
  19. Non believers? What is there to doubt?
  20. I have reservations with NSW as the ones sold by LFSs tend to have lower salinity and may contribute to algae blooms due to organism die-offs.
  21. Your tank is sizeable so you are going to need several large thrash can type containers (can hold around 200 litres) or a couple of those blue tubs that LFSs use which, depending on size can hold in excess of 1000 litres. These tubs will hold your premixed saltwater (mixed at least 24 hours before doing any water changes). My suggestion is to do 50% for the first day and 25% for the 2nd day. Contrary to popular belief, doing such a large water change does not harm the tank's inhabitants in the case where the tank's current water already has high nutrient levels. The one constant you should adhere to is to keep the same salinity as your old water. LPS corals and even most SPS corals do not need 400W MH bulbs. Try 250W or several T5 bulbs at a higher light spectrum.
  22. For the most painless path to solving your tank problems, these are the suggested undertakings: 1) Change 50-75% of tank water spread over a period of 2-3 days. A weekly 10% water change does not cut it. 2) Remove the bioballs completely over a period of one week 3) Do not use 10,000K 400W bulbs - they are not necessary for a tank without light-demanding corals such as yours. Change to 14kk or 20kk spectrum 250W bulbs or T5s and shorten the photoperiod to 6-7 hours. 4) Do not add any new fishes, inverts or corals 5) Re-test NO3, PO4, kh and ph parameters after your large water changes and complete removal of bioballs. With the above, I am sure your tank will look and do a lot better.
  23. This looks great, wonder if it's behavior is like a typical blenny.
  24. I haven't spent a whole lot of time in this forum but if I may hazard a guess, I would attribute your writing style to youthful exuberance and enthusiasm regarding all things fishes - sometimes almost to the point of being perplexed at why some other reefers do not seem as excited over certain fishes as you do (e.g. rarity in the market, colours, genus, etc).
  25. I second the comments here regarding Henry of Marine Life Hobbielist. Proper advice, healthy livestock and a very good memory of customers' names!
