  9. I have always dripped corals before dropping them in the tank. Biut only for an hour or so too. never for 4 hours or more. IMHO however, the reason most corals die within a couple of weeks is more likely due to the condition of the coral before we buy it.
  10. Talked to Henry and he thought that it could simply be old age: they are 2-3 years old, which for a Banggai is doing pretty good. Anyone else have any ideas?
  11. I have two banggai cardinals that we have had since they were born (we had their mum and dad). They are now about 2 years old. They spend all their time side by side, and have successfully mated several times previously. About a week ago I noticed that both of them had their tails partially eaten. This has never before and i have not noticed any other fish harassing them. Maybe they are in some mating ritual and have eaten each others tail? Also, the female one is swimming around upside down when near the male. I thought it was sick so put it in my nano tank where it immediately swam the right way up and ate normally. When I put it back in our main tank the next day, she immediately turned upside down when near the other one. Any ideas what is going on?
  12. Was using coralife for the last 4 years with no problems - now they stopped importing it (dunno why....). Reef crystals? What is the price like?
  13. Hi HTH Yes, we are still around and enjoying our aquarium - just no time these days to be so active as before, on this forum. Update on the 'Coral Reef' brand salt, as I had already bought it (thinking it was made in USA) I thought that I may as well use it so I did a 20% water change in my 150 gal tank (yeah, I know, a bit risky to do such a large watr change with an unknown salt). Anyway, 4 days later and everything looks fine - no dead fish or corals Only thing is that the mixed salt remained cloudy even after mixing well and leaving overnight and there was some undissolved sediment in the bottom of the buckets. To be safe, when I have used this lot up, I will go back to a better known brand. Still interested to hear anyone else's experience with 'Coral Reef' brand salt from China.
  14. I usually use Coralife salt but cannot find in Singapore any more, so I just bought 'Coral Reef' brand salt thinking it was made in USA. But, when I get home and read the packaging properly and look on the internet I see that it is made in China. Does anyone here use it? If so, any bad experiences? I keep mainly fish, with some LPS corals - nothing too difficult.
  15. seagrass filefish are good but they can become lazy once all the current aiptasia has been eaten. Then they get a liking for normal food and when a new aiptasia comes along they aren't interested! Same with copperbands often. Berghia nudibranches are supposed to be good but I have never tried them
  16. if you add kalkwasser to your top-up water like many of us, then it is not distilled water when it goes in the tank anyway. tiffany, i was rubbing my screen trying to kill that darn insect until i realised it was in your signature! lol
