I'm using this for some time already, and it meet my expectation. As mention, if it gives off mucus like substance, it will not stick well. Also need to ensure the coral you wanted to stick does not topple when placement. If it topple under its weight, epoxy 'holding' power is limited & it will not work....

Tried keeping some LPS with T8 lighting. Colour slowly fades and corals 'flesh' receeds and in no time dies out Without any cooling fans(for a start), better not keep LPS...

Red Sea salt was first used for my LPS tank. OK for me except its solubility is a bit poor. Need to stir more to make it completely dissolved. Currently using Oceanic. Dissolving it is a breeze

Wa... Coral growth and colour is Surely yr Solaris is 'performing'. Light is one item, the others is water conditions and flow...

Hi Alex, Very interesting findings on yr Solaris H series that its 'light output' is at ~30%!! If that is true, LEDs 'burning' at 30% capacity will surely have a longer LED life(that's the manufacturer claim). But this shortfall may not make some SPS 'happy' in terms of their colouration. That means yr DIY lighting is BETTER ! Yr coming updates will be interesting...
-
Hi Alex, The main reason why 'brightness is not so good' is listed in Solaris web : "The Solaris is designed to light up an aquarium tank, not for humans to burn their eyes. The LED's we use are the brightest manufactured for mass distribution available today. We then put a lens on it which spreads the point source out and focuses the light into the aquarium. This lens is why our LED's may not appear to be as bright as a bare LED when you stare into the light. Don't be fooled. Get the PAR meter out and measure the light on a surface." But overall, yr FTS is great!!

What a BANG !! This may most likely be the first reef tank using LED lighting !! Previous updates on your DIY(except the acrylic tank) set-up is fantastic !! Look forward to see more

Hi Seawater, I remember Aqua Bee flowrate is higher. Need to add $$ if use Aqua Bee instead of Maxi-Jet
-
Mine CR fr Joe uses Maxi-Jet @13W 1120l/hr. Good workmanship & works great!! Aqua-Bee pump will have slightly higher flowrate

T5 is 5/12" in dia. eg 4ft is 54W T8 is 8/12", 4ft is 36W Now most reefers uses T5 But T8 is also OK

Very impressive tank with lots of gems Should post under Members Tank & Spec

Seio M1100 is rated at 1100gph/4400lph at 13W. Agreed with LaW, use lower rated pumps for a 3ft tank. M1100 or K4 is too strong... I'm using M1100 for my 5ft tank.

This was featured in the news when it 'open'. Many folks also fear about it being leak or crack due to intentional/unintentional actions... All hell break loose... -
Hi Iantoh, Yes, I used 2(AquaScience 15k) of them fr mar 06~Jan 07, the other 2 is ATI. Now all 4 are ATIs(3 Aquablue special & 1 blue plus). Since the change to 4 ATIs, I can say AquaScience T5s is better. But as I said b4, it very much depends on the tank setup and personal preference How I wish AquaScience T5 is cheaper... Cheers

Hi Iantoh, From this report, I do notice(fr the pictures) growth is better under AquaScience. As for its colouration, it very much depends on individual taste. But I do prefer AquaScience... This comparison study will always create a lot of 'discussions' among reefers, but the most important of all is what the corals 'sees' under different T5 tubes, be it ATI, Aquascience, Giesemann, D-D, Aquaz etc. An the end of the day, reefers will choose their T5s for their tanks
