  1. Hey Drato, thank you very much for your inputs! Actually, I do not know why i need to do this too.. it's a challenge posed by a friend. He is not ready to tell me the reason yet, but I believe it ccould be along the lines of him being able to catch some reef fish and keeping them in such a tank for holding 1st, before he could get them to better conditions. So, I just want to focus on the possible ways of keeping the fish alive under such limitations, instead of delving too deeply into the reason behind needing to do this. Drato, have you tried Ammonex for reefing..? Or is there anyone else who has used zeolites with success to reduce ammonia in an inhabited tank environment (fish only)? Cheers!
  2. Hi Gurus, Would anyone of you be in the position to suggest ideas to keep fish (only fish) alive without any supply of electricity? I am thinking of making a tank which can sustain fish for about 2 weeks without any electricity supply - after which, the fishes would immediately be transferred to a tank with all the necessary supplies like food, air pump, proper filtration etc etc.. The water in the during this 2 weeks would be chilled to about 15 degrees celcius, so the reef fishes might probably be in a state of semi-stasis. - right? or what is a good temprature to get reef fishes to go into "semi-stasis"..? I am quite confident that the fish would probably survive 2 weeks without feeding, but my 2 main concerns without any electricity supply to the tank are: 1) oxygen supply 2) filtration - i just need to keep the ammonia in check. If I am lucky, I MIGHT get away with the 1st problem using oxidators (hydrogen peroxide & catalyst). I am thinking of using Zeolites (circulating the tank's water with the bubbling from the oxidator) to bind the amonia & perhaps nitrates - can anyone suggest where to get zeolite for marine? Any other ideas for a tank with such unique limitations? Your opinions are most appreciated! Thank you!

  13. let us all observe 1 minute of silence for ma'am's anemone... i believe mourning like this is familiar to many here since our beginning of the hobby.. well, even through the mourning, remember to prevent further gloom.. guess at least 30% water change wld be in place.. & maybe the addition of carbon, right?
  14. Dear fellow Eastern reefer ma'am, I've tried isolating my BTA the same way before... but i realised that it wasn't doing too well in such conditions. My guess is that it was not too happy about the temperature near the surface where the lightings were.. & that anemones need current (for water replacement & waste renewal)... I realised that different species of anemones probably have different preferences.. sabae seem to like to plant their feet firmly to a piece of rock, but both my BTA have prefered to anchor their feet through some sort of hole in the rock, such that they take on an hourglass kind of shape, with the ring of rock around the thinner part of the hourglass. I've read that some auquarists actually cut out pvc pipes into rings & fix them to their scaping (by marine epoxy or otherwise) just to satisfy this need of the BTA. However, all these possible efforts to prevent the BTA's moving about are probably just minimizing the chances of them moving, & not totally eliminating the possibility. Although we get upset when the anemone moves to places in our aquaria which we do not want it to be, but let's think about it... only a live anemone would "walk" around..
  15. I left my liverocks out of water, in an empty pail. the crabs came out themselves.. Maybe a fantail filefish would help? & it's not as aggressive as a dottyback..

  19. I had a fishing buddy who nearly got into trouble together with me a few times during our fishing trips.. he's quite poor thing.. kena bullied by giant kbls countless times at WG.. didn't manage to land the big PB at BR... nearly got caught... with the best intention to cool down the reel, poured water with coffee residue onto another kaki's Accurate while he as fighting a biggie... nearly got thrown off the vessel to feed giant groupers... sigh... I wonder if you have seen him lately? You have very very nice pups.. would they be able to survive well with just 4x 21 watt T5? are they reef safe? take brine shrimp? Lance@meta-pro.com
