  1. Boss, I think the GST only applies if the order is more than $400. I've bought many things off ebay and US/Europe websites, so far as long as declared value is lower than $400, I don't get taxed. Extracted from Singapore Customs link: Goods and Services Tax There is a 7% Goods and Services Tax (GST) levied on all goods, inclusive of new articles, personal effects, souvenirs, gifts, food preparations and dutiable products, imported into Singapore. GST is calculated based on the CIF value (cost, insurance and freight) of the goods plus all duties payable. If the invoice value of goods does not include insurance and freight charges, the postage charge paid for the goods is to be taken as freight and insurance charges, and is to be added to the invoice value of such invoice for calculation of GST payable. GST relief is granted on goods, inclusive of new articles, personal effects, souvenirs, gifts and food preparations but excluding dutiable products, imported by post to a total value not exceeding $400. Where the value exceeds $400, the entire sum would be subject to GST.

  3. ATI T5 tubes instock at AM. I just bought 8 tubes this afternoon. Still quite alot left. Call them before going down to be safe.
  4. Won't the outdoor storage of RO/DI water cause the water to heat up on hot days?
  5. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1993263&highlight=kalk+2 According to renown Harvard Chemist Randy Holmes-Farley: Unfortunately, it is a very poorly designed product that won't work. It has very little magnesium in it, but even that will precipitate out in limewater as magnesium hydroxide. Really, this is a pitiful product. Not enough magnesium to be useful even if it worked, and it won't work. It is a marketing gimmick.
  6. Did you add water to salt instead of adding the salt to water?
  7. I've done Alk tests with both Salifert and Red Sea test kits and both gave me same results so should be quite reliable. One way I use to determine the change is colour is by doing the tests on a white table or paper, under white LED lights and checking for colour change from top down instead of side ways. This way, I can detect colour changes very reliably.

  9. Not to mention the constant adjustments, whether to feeding, dosing or equipment. I found that my SPS grew much faster when I just keep my Alk, Cal and Mag constant and my hands out of my tank (no fiddling with equipment or tank condition).
  10. My suggestion is to stop dosing trace and plus (which is trace+amino acid) since you only have a few small corals... I am no expert but I truly believe the problems many new SPS reefers face is trying to do / dose too much. Keeping SPS alive is actually quite straight forward, just need good flow, strong light and (most important) reasonably clean water with very stable Alk, Cal and Mag. Many times, we make things more difficult for ourselves by trying to do too much and end up spending more $$$ on dosing and killing sps.
  11. Are you dosing anything now? If you do, stop. Measure the big 3 of Alk, Cal and Mag in the morning and then again at night. Continue for 2-3 days to compare the numbers and check how much these fluctuate. You'll know your tank's daily Alk and Cal consumption by comparing the numbers taken at the same time on different days. Usually Mag doesn't move much as long as you are doing regular water changes. Then you can decide how you want to compensate this drop in Alk and Cal. Some methods of compensating these elements are water changes, dosing kalk or 2 parts.
  12. 4 tubes of ATI T5 can keep SPS alive. Your high Alk + fluctuation of KH during the day and strong light will cause tissue necrosis which you are experiencing. Your Alk is too high. Best to keep around 8KH and have to keep it constant round the clock. I suspect your Alk swings are too much for SPS to handle, cauing STN. I use to have STN problems from bottom up until I got my Alk stable. No point dosing or wasting time chasing other things. Just make sure your Alk, Cal and Mag are stable with little to no fluctuation, your SPS will start growing like weeds. Then you can start worrying about getting them more colourful.
  13. I noticed GSP don't like smooth surfaces like glass and acrylic. So I bought some acrylic rods from Art Friend cut them down and stick them to the underside of my rocks. If you look closely at the pictures, you'll noticed the rocks are 'floating' off the glass bottom. Even with this method, the GSP will still eventually start growing on the acrylic. So I do a monthly or bi-monthly (if I am lazy) inspection of the bottom acrylic. I use a toothbrush to brush off any GSP that grows on the acrylic. This prevents them from reaching the rock. If they get to the rock, the rock is gone...see the GSP rock in the front of the tank in the 2nd picture, GSP reached the rock before I discovered it on that rock. The rock was covered in GSP in less than 2 weeks...
  14. Thanks. I read on Reefcentral about the power of white clams but haven't had a chance to try it.
  15. Bro, white clams are those sold at the seafood counter at NTUC?
  16. yeah, it looks like seagrass. Reminds me of my old planted tank
  17. Most SPS still small but growing quite fast. GSP use to cover whole tank bottom, but it was growing onto rocks very quickly, so I had to trim it back. The back bottom of the tank is still covered with GSP.
  18. Great job with the filefish I've read so much about how difficult they are to keep alive in captivity but yours seem to be fat and happy. How did you get it to start eating? I have a SPS tank so will never be able to have one since their natural food source is SPS polyp But I'm curious how you got it to eat frozen prepared food. Does it eat pellets? Thanks
  19. It took me more than 1year to grow GSP on back wall. Bear in mind it takes a lot of time and effort to ensure the GSP stays off the rocks.
  20. The following still available: - 16 x 450-455nm - 12 x 455-460nm All for $36
  21. Saw 1 at Sealife on Sunday. Call the Auntie to check if still available. Didn't ask price.
