Hi all reefers, i juz started reefing.. hence some noobies questions to ask!! i'm using a 2.5x1.8x1.8ft tank with a 2x1x1ft sump tank, yesterdae i pour in 4kg of marine salt however when i use the meter to test it reads 1.014.. (the correct amount shld be 1.02 - 1.03??) so anyone any idea how much more salt shld i buy to top up??

diameter of ur overflow pipe??

umm.. ok i am using a 1/2 inch pipe! ard 16MM i guess.. the flow rate i could not determine how much per hour by just looking haven reach that level! hehe.. ya! i am worried it will flood my house! lol.. but will drilled hole.. the flow rate is small! and slow! then my pump will be too strong.. are u suggesting i change a bigger pipe??

ok, umm.. wat i did was i install a ball valve to regulate the output so i can play with the flowrate.. (noise level so minimum) however i kept my end cap (w/o drilled holes) seal on part2, as this way provides the maximum flowrate.. so my method is kinda, "the suction gravity" method as i need to sux the water to kick start the flow everytime.. it wun auto restart! (tested and it juz wun restart) ANYWAY... once i remove my end cap, the flowrate is greatly REDUCED by 50% or more! i try many methods from taping up the end with only millimetres of openings but still the flowrate is the same! (SLOW) no matter the hole is big or small! hence my pump (input) is drawing water faster then the output.. Pls advice?

ok, as referred to helldust! i did wat u say step by step BTW, i add the skimmer part! so my main tank will not be suck dry! hehe.. ok. the water kick started.. water flow very fast out with the end cap placed @ 2 (as labelled by u) however, once i remove the end cap, water is greater reduced by 50%.. my worries are.. will the water get cut off all the sudden? as the flow rate isn't as strong.. 2ndly is, say once my pump malfunction, and the overflow will auto cut off as the water level is below my skimmer mark.. then once i start to pump water again, do i need to kick start the overflow system again? or will it auto flow by itself once the water level exceeds my skimmer mark, and flows into my skimmer???? abit confusing.. but do u get wat i mean?? as for TAN.. the noise water is alrite i only hear my pump running..

WAIT. let me clarify 1st! am i doing wat u guys suggested? ok i place an end cap @ the bottom output pipe i pour water from the water however, water only occupies the Blue area which i have drawn the yellow portion seems empty OK, after i have pour in the water with the end cap ON.. wats next?? pls advise? as nuttin has happen!! thanks
