  1. he is talking about coralline algae....the pink/red/purplish algae on the rocks and every damn thing else it can grow on. Dosing with kalkwasser has the same growth effects. You don't need expensive water to make it grow. If you really want it badly, get some scrapped coralline from some reefer's tank and pour into your tank to seed the growth. Adding strontium will boost it artificially too but in my opinion its totally a waste of money to do that. Kalk and time is all it needs.
  2. Hi bro, I really do not recomend using a ozone generator. It has not proven to be effective against ich. If you adjust it to be able to kill ich, it will also kill everything else. Ozone is highly reactive and can corrode all the air tubings, PVC or acrylic plastic which is not ozone safe. It makes them brittle. A good ozone set comes with a ORP monitor to control the release of ozone. It is difficult to use and spoils easily. ICH happens and is part of marine environment. If your tang doesn't survive the ich, it won't even when you use the ozone. It only delays the inevitable. Feeding them well and ensuring good water conditions is the best you can do for them. Reduce ph to less than 7.7 and salinity to about 1.017 if you really must try something. extreme low salinity kills ich. But their eggs will still survive.
  3. Those are the mucas slime from the spaghetti worm. They use the slimy mucas to trap detritus and food. They are harmless and are part of the eco system....ie Important. The tentacles are its feeding tubes. The worm itself is much bigger. You can read more about them here. Worms
  4. The only way is plucking. I have to harvest them from my overflow box everyweek. Its a nuisance. But they help to camouflage my overflow box. If they ever grow on my rocks I am done for. hahaha The most effective way to stop them is to overgrow your sump with other types of algae. This will force them to compete with the nutrients available. If your sump is filled with enough growing algae, the bryopsis growth will slow down greatly. Reducing light intensity will also reduce or slow growth. However this is not as good as your corals will suffer.
  5. Yup thats bryopsis alright. Better get rid of it before it grows everywhere. Remove while you still can but not underwater otherwise you will spread it. It grows like weeds and unless you have a way of harvesting it every week and controlling its growth, you better remove it fast. Otherwise its a great nutrient exporter which never goes asexual because of its rapid growth. But make sure you can control its growth. And forget about anything that eats it. There is only 1 type of slug which eats it but will die once its gone. Fish, snails and other slugs dun eat it. It is toxic and contains a kind of nerve agent which affects the heart when consumed.
  6. did you check your tank temp? a rise in temp of more than 4 degrees constantly (ie around 31 degrees for more than 12hrs) will kill them (hence white colour).
  7. hahaha everyone is going to look for these gobies now. You've started another fad.
  8. I strongly recommend you get Ian to custom build one for you. Its no joke if you get it wrong. Water water everywhere.....if you know what I mean. PM Ian for more information.
  9. In my opinion its not worth while to do this to make money. And its certainly not ethical to sell a bottle of home made phyto at anything more than $10 per 1.5L bottle. The concentration of DT is so much higher than what home made can ever do. If you do the maths, you can actually end up paying more for the home made phyto if you pay more than the super concentrated DT. As someone posted in the sale section. (the maths I mean) But of course home made is fresher and confirmed ALIVE. I wouldn't trust any sponsor to actually give you the REAL cultured amount which has been sitting for 10days. Any less and you risk residual phosphates and nitrates which is used as fertilizer. Imagine if the one selling was trying to make more money? He would just dilute with half fresh salt mix and he can double his amount. So the best solution is still DTs or grow your own or get from people you really trust.

  16. You were asking about tanks with or without filters. Mine runs without any filters except the above I mentioned. Wavemakers are another thing. I use TUNZE for wavemaking. DIY kalkreactor for dosing kalk, DIY korallin calcium reactor for increasing my calcium and dkh levels, TUBBY for maintaining salinity and replacing evaporated water.
  17. I don't use any filters. I rely solely on my live rocks, skimmer, sandbed and refugium.
  18. Saw a similar posting so I was curious....does anyone here do spray painting of anime's too? Heres some of my own works. The logo is from a HK company which uses my photos in his gallery. Jafco SD
