  1. I am not too sure about that. But i don't think shrimps and crabby get ich so it shd be alrite to have them in while isolating ur tank.
  2. Hi Just to share my experience dealing with ich... My butterfly fish and regal tang got ich. I transferred them to a hospital tank of 2 ft then do the hyposalinity method. That is gradually reducing the salinity of water to ard 1.010 over a period of a few days. Remain at this level until all the whitespot disappear. The fishes can then be returned to the main tank 30days(recommended length) after the last white spot disappeared. U must also make sure ur main tank is free from white spot parasites. This can be done by isolating it for 30 days without fishes to ensure the parasites all died. Hope this helps... benson
  3. My tank have the same situation... clean the glass surface often if u can't stand the ugly sight. The algae will stop growing once the silicate and phosphate have been used up. So i think that's why it's always better to use salt that are phosphate free...wouldn't have recurring incidents. Rowaphos is some phopsphate-absorbing medium. Besides rowaphos, there are also other brands available on the mkt and they serve the same purpose.
  4. Just realised i posted in the wrong forum... aiya too stress liao
  5. Hi guys, I suspect my clown fish is suffering from velvet disease... Previously my tank is infected with ich. Now my butterfly and tang are in the hospital tank recovering. But now one of the two clown in my main tank seems to have velvet. I'm quite stressed now... Anyway, anyone know any effective method agianst velvet beside copper treatment?
  6. Is it...? hmm... i used to use marinemix(not very common brand). Then i change to redsea...it's cheaper and compare to the previous brand, it dissolves much faster. So far, my tank is still doing fine Maybe compared to the rest, redsea will not fare as well. I'm not too sure abt that. Perhaps other user can advise?
  7. The few common brand are redsea, coralife, tropic marine... i'm using redsea salt now... it dissolve quite fast.
  8. Hi, There's a high chance it's diatoms. It's a kiind of algae if i'm not mistaken which loves phosphate and silicate. Can buy macro algae to take in the nutrients. And also buy snails to help clean ur tank.
  9. I do not think that freshwater dip helps because the ich actually tear the fish skin and feed on it. It's firmly attached to the fish so the dip will not cause it to loosen up. Read this from a book... Anyway, hyposalinity is more efficient. Just my 2 cents worth. Another query is that whether ich comes on and off then on and off again in a matter of 2-3 days? That's the case for my butterfly fish. But my regal tang is still not showing any spots leh? Any comments on this? Thanks.
  10. Hi, If u're intending to kick-start your tank with ammonia source from the LR, u can simply put them in on the same day u have your tank set-up. It will have some decomposition of the organism going on in the LR & This will help to get ur nitrogen cycle started. But not to worry, the LR may have die during this cycling period, it will become alive again in the future when ur tank is more establised and stuff will appear on ur lr ONCE AGAIN As for the amt of LR, the more the merrier, provided ur tank and it's stand can support the weight. The LR aid in the tank Bio-filtration and also use sufficient LR for ur aquascaping!! Regards Benson
  11. Do u mean 1.012-1.013? But because i'm having invertebrate in my main tank, i will need to treat the fishes in a separate tank. I might need to get a quarantine tank I do not have 1 actually Hope i'll be able to help my poor butterfly to get rid of the whitey stuffs and that it'll not spread too much to other tank mate. My blue tank didn't show any sign of it yet thou...
  12. Hi guys, My butterfly fish has caught the bug... I have read about lowering the specific gravity of the water but exactly how low shd it goes? I've read in another thread that it's abt 1.014. Isn'y that a bit low and how long to expose my fish to this level? ANother query is whether i can perform this in my main tank with other fishes in there as well as a sponge, button and tubeworms? Thanks...Appreciate responses. Regards Benson
  13. In your opinion, is arcadia brand's reflector gd? ISn't reflector abt the same...how to tell a gd and a bad reflector? Thanks...
  14. Anyone using light reflector like arcadia ones? Pls advice...
  15. IMO, go for a bigger tank like a 2 feet(13 gal) for the minimum. U can have a very beautiful 2 ft tank if u take the effort to aquascape and , of course, to maintain it.
  16. I have limited knowledge on lightings but i do know that all lightings need ballast to operate. The standard one that u find in LFS with fluorscent tubing are fitted with magnetic ballast. This is of lower standard as compared to electronic ballast(eballast) which are necessary for lightinigs like T5 and PL(power compact) lightings. When u on the light, they do not flicker and eballast also produces less heat.
  17. The diatoms are there because of the silicate and phosphate... can use phosguard to help control it. IF not, introducing macro algae like grape algae do helps too. I introduce grape algae(not too sure abt the name ...) and it helps to control the diatoms by taking in the phosphate.
  18. I added grape algae into my tank and it helps in controlling the phosphate level. The diatoms begins to diminish and i needn't add in phosguard etc. thou i have it ready just in case i need it...
