Arctica Review in RC I notice that the American is using bigger pumps to drive their Arctica. Even a 1/3hp takes a 2400L++ pump with no problem. Maybe a biger pump helps, since the Arctica uses thriple Titanium Coil, 3x at much surface han conventional Titanium. Talk about Titanium, I thought a DIY Titanium coil cost $600 , 3X = 3x$6000 = $1800 I wonder if the Titanium ready cost that much???? Maybe the OEM pricing and consumer pricing for titanium coil is many....many times apart? Max

No choice lah...........wife complain keep so many tanks( 3.5ft, 2ft & 8ft) at my father's place and some more want a tank in the new house...........nearly have to sleep in the bomb shelter................... Hi Rodian thks for advise. The fan built into the Arctica running at 16W is more powerful than yr large size table fan. U can feel the air blows fts away. So installation a aluminium foil duct to direct the air out is no issue. You do not need to waste money on a high wattage exhaust fan. Max

Was at Hon house to help setup the chiller. The Arctica model is the 1/2HP, and the recommended rated flow should be at least 1800L/hr to 3000L/hr for pumping. Hon using a 10yr old 1060 @ 2400L, running thru a wall at the top to the toilet and back to tank for several metres. The actual flow come down to 1000L++ -> base on eheim flow chart @ 5metre length + 2 metre height. I think a eheim 1262 at least or a Resun MD40, both 3400L @ 3.6M height, so with his long piping + height extension, he still can avg a chiller flow of 2000++L/hr. The 1/2HP 605W Arctica show chilling sightly faster than the 1080W 1.25HP Hailea. But result is not super duber We still need to do 2 things and a couple of days to reconfirm. 1. Wait for the Compressor to break_in for better efficient. 2. Change to a bigger pump, like eheim 1262 or resun MD40. So we can pour in more cold water per hour. The Themostat is mount externally with 10metres of wire and plse do not refer to the website as info is old. The new Controller, comes with themostat + IC controller to do couple of things: # shut down chiller if too hot # test temperature for 3 mintues before shutting down or starting up to ensure no flase start due to different water column being such in thru pumping. # freeze control to prevent freezing with low flow pumping -> less than ideal 1800L/hr flow by chiller pump. So the temperature of running water from chiller output can be maintain equal even with 1800L or 300L/hr flow. #VERY POWERFUL FAN with low wattage. U can connect a aluminium air duct to direct the hot air out of the window. Too bad Hon disapprove due to .............................. In anycase we attain 1 of our objective, that's to cut power consumption by 1/2 and improve performance. Anyway his power consumption will be low, since pump is shut down as IKS shut down chiller. The above 2 changes will show better data + result. Max

FYI Arctica 1HP can chill 3000L to 25 degree at 30 degree room temperature and at a rate of 1 degree/hr 1600L, 1/2HP is enough liao BTW Alvy, how's your tank.................so big and so much space to fill in ..................size I can only dream of...... One of the Tung Lok grp resturant is using 1HP for 8x4ft tank at 22 degree.

Your relay between the themostat and compressor have been buned? This might happend or just over heating problem & the chiller can be restarted a while later. I recommend a TR, RR or Arctica Chiller base on my personally experience. TR & RR for Price per HP and Arctica for performance and extremely efficient low wattage/HP. Other chiller brands, you might want to hear reefers who have experience.......... Maxima

It is 1/3HP only..........cooling equivalent to 1HP...maybe more.....

Neither pumps fit all of anybody's description. Eheim Prompt to lime build up in high dkh (dkh 8 above already have problem) saltwater and BTW warranty not valid for such problems! Heat? you can place it out sump? Wattage rather high! Price not that cheap! OR3500: Price expensive? Only expensive here! Get in German for half that price Reliability? Hear the noise it produce after several months to a year of useage. It's a hi or miss....going to the german saltwater forum and hear out what the local have to say Quite a majority reported problems. I would say that both are petty on par in Europe. locally will depends on the agent and your know Max Max

UPGRADING MONSTER CHILLER Selling Reef Relief 1.5HP Titanium Chiller for $1300. Eectrical Bill is about the same with Teco RA680(my former chiller) that was run at 26.5~29 degree - 1 degree higher than Reef Relief! Maintenance Servicing has been done by Dr Chill 2 mths back. Here we go.....1 good example.......but the price $$$$? I saw 1 Aquatechnic 6ft glass tank with 12mm glass without bracing......10yrs still good. Although you can see lots of these thin & lean quality workmanship in German....it is definitely lacking here........ Max

I'm actually referring to local vs oversea commercial workmanship & Knowledge. The key is the curing process, heard of UV curing? There isn't enough knowledge locally to DIY something as good as what you get from German or US. Max

Your $11 not even enough for my oversize Calcium Reactor pump.........man are you seriously not aware of $$$$ involve in this hobby........we have yet to add in the return pumping, chiller & lighting + circulation pumps = $ 3 digit! Max

Alois, I think you do not know what you are talking in the first place. Let me educate you Tunze comes in 2 version. 1. The standard AC version that works exact like the SEIO 2. The DC version that draws 75% more power, but can be control thru Tunze controlled and a AC/DC converter comes standard. The DC version cost 2.5X to 6X more than a standard Tunze--> $ depends on Controller type/model. So when you compare, you need to compare apple to apple -> the standard Tunze to Seio. BTW I'm not a fan to SEIO and also I've 2 spoilt Tunze cost over $1000 lying in my garage...less than 1 year old...you want to buy? Tunze are known to breakdown just as well, ask some of the other reefers, some of them having $2000+ worth of Tunze also have problems, especially SPS...........I wonder it's a "LUCK" thing or what Max
