dunno this method can anot....... drills alot of holes on the surface of the pipe and on top the end use a end cap to cover the top, so tat water can flow into the small holes instead the big oppening... then drill a smaller hole on the end cap so as to let the minimum air goin thru, thus reducing noise ............. try out see can work anot, just a suggestion only havent try out b4 good luck joe .

sponge up the pipe inlet........... (not a wise mathod too)

IMHO i think during cycling of the new tank, skimmer should not be running at all......... during cycling we want the bacterias to multiply up............so when the water is so clean how does these bacterias going to multiply leh? i think in this case u will actually take more time to do ur tank cycling lor......... however u can try to run any phosphate remover to remove all silicate or phosphate prior to the complete of cycling......... good luck bro for ur setup........
