  11. Hi..I'm having problems with this red hair like and slimy algae...please help!!
  12. The idea of suspending the bio-balls in air is to create an oxygen-rich environment for nitrification bacterias, which are aerobic in nature to improve its efficiency. If you submerge the bio-balls, then it would be operating just like any other submerged media such as LR, sand, etc...... The problem with wet/dry systems is that they tend to produce higher nitrates(NO3), and unless u have a means of reducing this (with DSB, LR, macro algae...), it is going to be a problem in the long term. BTW, I'm using one....but I have a DSB, plenty of LR and macro algae. So far, OK....
  13. Hi Bro, Already clarified with Osram PERSONALLY!! It's confirmed 5200K. Mine worst..the LFS even told me it's 10000K when I first bought!! I'm using Oceanfree, but same Osram bulbs....In fact I already posted this info sometime back....lucky they agree to exchange bulbs for me...
  14. Sorry,..something to correct..Osram don't make HQI-TS MH bulbs with color temp greater than 5200K.
  15. Heard from one LFS that Weipro MH set not using tempered glass to sheild bulbs....true or not?? I heard only using transparent PVC...If no glass, then can be dangerous for long term as MH bulbs emit lots of UV radiation...unless your bulb is one of those that has built in UV protection. BTW, if they are using Osram bulbs, then the colour temp is only 5200K.....NOT GOOD FOR MARINE..I know Osram don't make HQI-TS MH bulbs...how I know?? Cos I called them up myself......be careful of this especially if you buy those Ocean Free sets.....
  16. You can connect a float switch to turn-off your sump pump but that will cut off your tank circulation. Water will flow back via the pump line by siphon when the pump is off and the water level will drop. This drop will turn on the float switch and activate the pump again and the cycle continues......What if no one is home to restart the main siphon?? The start/stop interval and cycle will most likely be very short..and if it goes on for long periods, you might be stressing the pump and it might get damaged. The starting current in a pump running with load can be high. The interuption in circulation will also kill you tank inhabitants if it is left for too long. There is actually a way to restart or 'kick-start' your main siphon automatically (in case it is accidently broken), also by using a float switch and another smaller and cheaper pump. PM me if your still interested and I can give you all the details.
  17. Why not use an overflowbox instead? You can get an I-Box from Eaquanature. It's less of a hassle to setup and it might actually be cheaper. The float switch will cost you around $30 to $40 each(you can get them at Sim Lim Tower, 3rd or 4th level or order them online from RS Components), then you should also get a 24V relay and a 24VDC power supply to switch the pumps cos it's not safe to connect your 230VAC pump directly to the float switch. You DO NOT want 230V of electricity going into your tank in case there's a leak in the float switch, but if you REALLY must use a siphon to bring water down to the sump, PM me and I can share some info with you.
  18. Saw this unit today, very compact design. Has 2 chambers & selling for around $130.00 ONLY!! Can even install it in series with a denitrator. Looks good but not sure if it really works...any feedbacks will be most appreciated!!
  19. Bought a set that came with 2x150w MH bulbs last week. The bulbs were supposed be 10000K ones. Took it home and turned it on.....the colour was too yellow. Figured out something was wrong and checked the bulbs. They were Osram bulbs. Checked the bulb specs on Osram's website and found out it was only 5200K!! Called up Osram personaly and was told that Osram does not manufacture 10000K bulbs for HQI-TS-150w/** series!! So I complained to the LFS...they were also not aware of the problem, in fact even their own stock came with the same bulbs. Anyway the LFS agreed to change the bulbs for me and lodged a complaint to the original supplier, who said they are investigating the matter....So if anybody have any intention of buying one or maybe have already bought one, please...BEWARE!!!
