Colonizing filter media

Just toying with the idea of colonizing bio rings with bacteria products first in a isolated container before placing into the system..

Yes, I know, the bacteria would colonize the bio ring when you place it in the system over a period of time... but was thinking if it would shorten the period of colonizating the media in a smaller area compared to a big system like our tank..

Any biology reefers can input on this.. based on my limited knowledge, I feel it can be done.

like how? in a small container with lots of flows and food?

Have high flow in the container so the water will not get stagnant and foul up.. add the bacteria in the container, according to the dosage.. but I normally double it.. den continue dosing throughout the two weeks.. I am not sure if it would work.. but it should if all is provide for..

Hi Terry, i think your method works. It would help the bacterial to concentrate and colonize on the media in a shorter time.

But i think during the initial stage, flow should be slow enough so that the bacterial would have a chance to stay within the media compartment as long as possible :) as long as there are no stagnant , water should not turn foul.

Treat others the way you wanna be treated...
