mjck
Currently I have 2 skunk/cleaner shrimp as cleanup crew. These guys are quite aggressive when it comes to feeding time. Scrambling fanatically, picking off food from coral tentacles and even digging into coral mouths to retrieve food. Are there any better behaved shrimps that doesn't terrorize the rest or any other alternatives that will perform the job w/o the aggression? I do have a decorator crab and another unknown crab... But u never see them come out to 'work' Cheers
SRC Member peacemaker Posted February 1, 2012 SRC Member Share Posted February 1, 2012 IME, nassarius snails are pretty good in this area if you have a sandbed. Not that they can't survive in a bare bottom tank, just that it is always fun to watch them emerge from within the sand in almost an instant like zombies. sherman
Snails are better cleaner crew then hermit crab and shrimps. Hermit crabs really knock down a lot of fraq along their path Quote 6.5 * 2 * 2 + 3.75 * 1.5 *1.5,(Decomn on 14/9/08) 4*2*2 + 2.5*1.25*1.25 (Decomn on 1/8/09) 5*2*2 (Fully LED light system, 140 3 watt SSC leds with 60 degree lens)(Decomm) 2.5*2*2(Fully LED Light System,96 3 watt SSC leds with 60 degree lens)(Decomm) 5*2.5*2(LED only) Eheim return 1 * pump 1 HP Daikin compressor with cooling coil 2 Jebao OW40, 1 ecotech MP40, 1X6085 Tunze wm, 1 CURVE 7 Skimmer 1 DIY 80 led control by Bluefish mini 1 radion XR30W G2, 2 Radion XR15G3 Sump area lite by 5 ft T5 , 6 * SSC 3 watt red LED for refugium 1 Full spectrum E27 led light 1 CR control by bubble count Start No Water Change since 1st Dec 2016 Add new 2.5x2x 1.5 ft [/quote]
mjck
Agree with the hermit. Have a larger blue eyed hermit that always knocks frags down/over . I had to put him in the sump. The smaller scarlet red hermits are still ok, but they don't seem to be very hardworking and only appears at night..

SRC Member LittleBurger Posted February 7, 2012 SRC Member Share Posted February 7, 2012 I got 2 blood shrimps which is always out in the open. Will scavenges food on sand bed n 1 like to kahjiao the sun corals. Find tat blood shrimps better than skunk shrimps in terms of behaviour. But feel tat the species behaviour differs from the area they were captured. I got many blood shrimps b4 but all super mia shrimps. Only this most recent purchase they will go out when they know is feeding time. The other way is feed the shrimps 1st before feeding yr corals. samuel88
Get a huge army of sexy shrimps! But.... They eat very little..... I wouldn't say sexy shrimps are very reef safe though. Snails are great as well as hermit crabs, just becareful of them knocking over your rocks, unless you get smaller ones.
