Dunno whether anyone hav posted a review on this a not.... but here goes:

hav just DIYed my T5 lightings using a old ocean free 3ft dual 2ft FL lighting hood....

As it is for my refugium use, i was somewhat looking for a cheap alternative to T5 tubes instead of the established ATI/Deltec/Arcadia which can cost me a bomb ( ard $100 for 2 tubes ).... <_<

And then, i came across this Osram T5 HO FQ-24W / 860 Daylight....

a further check on the osram website showed that it is a 6,000K lighting....

http://www.osram.com/products/general/fluorescent/fq.html

i was tinking an ATI sun pro is also 6,000K... thus i decided to give it a try...

btw, anyone already tried them n hav gd results? :)

finally got it fired up tonight... after observing for 4 hrs, i find no abnormalities from my LS in the refuguim.... the light that i got was white or i would say visually whiter than my previous lighting C& Aqu@riums T4-PL 55W white/white lighting....

Another observation that i noted almost immediately is that the T5s r so much brighter.... ;)

So far so gd... my maroon clown can still find me for food under the new lighting n i can see some few bubbling on my macroalgae, a few brown yuma frags that i threw inside previously r responding better to this new lighting...

For the price of $9/tube, i guess it's worth trying... will monitor for a few more days.... see whether my macros will go asexual a not due to light temp too low or wat.... ;)

hmm,... happens to read this regarding the osram 860 from a clams forum:

8X54W of T5 will give at least as good results of most of MH.

Put those T5 on, give'em some high quality reflectors and you're set!

I have a friend who experienced some amazing growth out of his SPS frags with exacty the same 8X54W SPS, 4 of them were Osram 860 and 4 Blue.

The light is very intense and as I said growth was better than what he got with 250w Iwasaki with actinic .

He changed now to Coralvue e-ballast 2X250W cause he did not like the static light of the flo. tube.

sinter do sell the eballast... dun noe bout the price as i bought mine long ago from a fellow reefer.... i got my T5 tube clips, end holders n wirings from sinter too.... ;)

becos im using for refuguim, i dun mind the white colour.... but if u r gonna use on ur main tank, then i wld suggest a combi with blue T5 lightings else it's gonna look quite white :)

hmm... will try to post a pic when i get hold of a digicam... :D

clownfish, I thought 6k kelvin lightings will bloom diatoms. Is it used on a fully stable tank? Have u tried on a new tank?

my tank is 1 year old... im trying it on my refuguim... an algae bloom is wat i wld desire.... :D

as regards to diatoms... i tink i hav more of those on my main tank glass.... though im using 20KK MH.... tink kelvin ratings r secondary to diatoms... phosphate is more likely the main culprit.... i reckon i still hav these due to using tap water n excessive feeding... that is y i need a strong lighting to assist me at my refuguim....

btw, seen some growth in my caulerpa n they din go asexual... that's gd news to me.... :D

Very gd piece of information. Another options for us T5 users.

:thanks:

still skeptically oberving though....

so pple, dun rush down to get the tubes first... might not even work out? unless u wan to try this new tube with me... i dun mind that too ;)... might just be betta if we hav more feedbacks n reviews... can be a cheap n gd alternative to white T5 tubes... n so we just need to supplement it with blue plus / actinic that's all... can lower overall cost for those T5 DIY project :D

I was thinking of replacing it with one of my old ATI tube (got 2nd from reefer here). I wonder if Osram has 10000K tube?

read from the acrobat file bout the HO tubes n seems to me there's this lumilux T5 De Luxe 965 which is 6K5 kelvin.... however its lumens is 1300 lux instead of the 860 with 1600 lux ( for 24W )....

so effectively 860 is brighter but 965 has a higher color temp....

http://www.osram.com/pdf/service_corner/farb_lumenkarte.pdf

anyone has any statistics from established aquarium T5 manufacturers where we can do some comparison?

it is a T5 HO (high output)... thus having the same wattage n type of output as those of ATI/Deltec... tink length shld be the same as well :)

Look like a good alternative to Deltek and ATI.

wHAT IS THE PRICE FOR 24W,39W AND 54W?

GE Lighting Starcoat T5 specs

GE has similar T5 HO lamps too. So does Philips. Not sure if we can actually find it in Singapore though.

interesting... hav higher lumens than osram too.... however, they din give any kelvin ratings for their tubes....

i reckon its 865 shld be a 6,500K....

anyone tried using this?

wHAT IS THE PRICE FOR 24W,39W AND 54W?

dun realli understand ur question... perhaps u mean

2ft = 24W

3 ft = 39 W

4 ft = 54W

:)
