Lighting regime

Hi all,

I just set up a marine tank.

Currently tank just cycled and only have LR and fishes. It's a 2 ft cube.

I'm using maxaspect s g2. Led lights. I was wondering if anyone can advice how long I should turn on the lights. There's 3 types to set on the lightest. One is very bright white, one not so bright white and one set is blue.

Hi bro,

I think different reefers have different set of timing for their lights.

It also depends on your live stocks.

I prefer mine to be this way; as I am home at night to enjoy the tank.

My live stocks are mostly fish; inverts and some non-sps corals.

White light: 3.30 pm to 11 pm.

Blue light: 6.00 pm to 11.30 pm

Royal Blue light: 10.00 pm to 12.30 am.

Note that my light intensity will be reducing when it is going off.

i used to use a g2 too. my lighting regime was : 130 royal blue ON, 230 not so bright white on, 430, rest of the bright white light on, 1030, bright light off, 1130, not so bright white off, 1230 royal blue off.

this at least gives some sunrise/sunset effect to it.. i only keep the majority of white lights on for 6 hours because i have a very shallow tank and worried corals might bleach.. since yours is a 2ft cube, can consider going longer period if you are keeping sps.

Thanks bros for the responses. I now on from 1pm all the way to 7am. 1pm to 10pm is very bright white. 4 pm to 2am is not so bright white and blue is from 10pm to 7am. Tank walls starting to get "stained" with I I suppose is algae.

I suppose I got it all wrong. Let me try some of the bros regime suggested here.

i think 12 - 13hours is the max, since thats how much they get in the nature.
