I been running my chiller when external thermostat since i started to kniw about this product few years back. No issue for all my chiller. I used it for my resun, pacific cool, hailei and currently 1hp aircon compressor. If u have basic wiring skill, u can get the thermostat at sim lim.

If i remember correctly, it is the 2nd shop on the left at the basement. Tell the boss u are using for fish tank so he will get the correct thermostat for u. Mine is fox 2001. If u are kiasu like me, buy a contactor also. This will prevent the chiller high load from burning the thermostat. I had a bad exp when i connect the thermostat directly to my 1/2hp chiller. It burnt my thermostat 2 mths later, sending my temp to 33 degree. I lost all my corals, a lineatus and flame wrasse. Expensive lesson learnt.
