Yes, it is to prevent resellers.. Not that we are disagree to aquaculture, but there are always profiteers who are using our forum as a platform to make quick bucks.. To safeguard sponsors who also doing home based aquaculture and lfs selling aquacultured corals.. We always welcome home based aquaculture reefer to join us as sponsors..

Out of the forum is not our control, it is their business that they are running based on their own platform and own circle of customers and not leeching on a platform to make quick bucks where they do not need to pay anything and get money quick as we are not running this forum without any cost..

Hmmm... how are the moderators going to judge that? Assuming that I start a frag tank, and my frags come from various sources (LFS, from other reefers, direct import, etc). They grow and multiply, and I have to start several threads to sell my frags due to this limitation. Do I need to be a sponsor to sell my frags then? It seems very restrictive. I can't see how this is not restricting home aquaculture.

it all boils down to the intention of the reefer.

regardless of purchasing from lfs, reefers or importers our intention is to enjoy this hobby and beautiful our aquarium.

you may raise question on what if the corals outgrow my desire size and i want to frag them, simply frag them and instead of putting up for sale you could put up for trade of giving them away for free.

some of the forums abroard have this practise as well.

By doing so not only encourage home aquaculture but also strengthen the bonds among reefers and value of sharing.

Terryz have mention if frag sellers still prefer to sell them off, they can still do so by following our guidelines or by joining the forum as a sponsor.

if your intention is to grow frag and sell to profit then i believe the fees for being a sponsor doesnt hinder you too much.

if your intention is just to trim your corals when they over grown then i believe they wouldnt grow that quickly within a month.

The intent to start a frag tank was to aquaculture and sell to fund the operation of the frag tank and profit from there if possible, correct me if I am wrong.. Yes, it is still contributing to sustainable reefing as we did not ban the sale of frags, we only limit it, we are open to opinions to change along the way.. Why have a frag tank if you can just plonk the frag into your main display without having to spend to setup a seperate frag tank.. Make sense? If it is from your main display, I know there is a time where you need to trim it.. But that is a must for you to frag and not frag for the sake of selling, yes, of course if you can make a profit then good.. The reason why we didnt ban the sale of frags.. I agree there is still a lot of grey area in our rules and regulations but this is what we came up to curb the number of reseller and profiteer..

I am also a bit confused now that u mentioned this. So basically this is restricting home aqua culture on an individual level?

So correct me if i am looking at this the wrong way. You are saying frag only when needed, and not for the sake of aquaculturing more frags? Believe some of us here are not out to profit, we sell mainly to share frags but at the same time get some returns to maintain the hefty cost of the running electrical meter.

I fully support the idea of limiting frag sales here by the way. Its a very grey area when it comes to people selling for big profits, and people selling because they aquacultured and want to share. And lastly when it comes to our actual LFS gaining support from purchase of imported corals.

The main reason for the rules is to " Discourage " profiter from the forum, and not to stop hobbyist from selling their overgrowth corals that required trimming as frags . Which is why we started the 5 frags per month rules ,which we feel that under normal circumstances the corals wouldn't outgrowth in your tank again in less than a month.

Yes , we agree this might need to be improvise or twitch abit in order to benefit and not being abused in any way. If hobbyist feel that one month 5 frags to sell is not enough, there is even a frags exchange section which enables reefers to put up their over growth frags for exchange . Unfortunately, it seem like it is not very popular here . :(

We are restricting due to the fact we see a lot of reefers who are just selling for the sake of profitting from the frags.. We will not just come up with a regulation if we see no cause for it.. I am not going to make a sweeping statement to say all sellers selling frags are profiteer but from the amount of frags they sell, you can tell if they are reseller.. Some will just post a sample photo and not stating the number of frags they have for sale.. Which is quite obvious, you can be your own judge.. I understand the selling of frag to offset the cost, we all do that.. If you are doing aquaculture to share and not profit, I think 5 frags is not a bad number and you can sell them well, we also have exchange and swop board to promote aquaculture.. We might change to make it a little flexible in the future.. Members can pm us for idea to make the forum more friendly and conducive..

Thanks for the clarification Harlequin and Terryz.

I am actually looking at this topic more as a buyer/purchaser point of view, than as a seller. Personally I haven't sold any frags before that I've frag from my own DT. As a buyer, i did like to have a good choice / wide range of coral frags to choose from.

Ultimately, i believe this new regulation will serve its intended purpose and its a good step. Maybe other reefers can share their inputs with our admins so we all can get the best out of this forum. Cheers
