Solo77
Came across the notice from their official website. Was amazed that they are able to do remote shutdown of equipment. Those who are thinking to buy, do note and check out. It's a good product too bad the previous agent didn't provide enough support. Hopefully the coming one can. SRC Member solasido Posted December 9, 2014 SRC Member Share Posted December 9, 2014 They can only do if the device is connected to Internet. However, legally it is not something so easy as they claim they "reserve" the right todo so. Based on which law and what infringement? Is there any court verdict? Otherwise we can report this to the Singapore police as an "act of unauthorized access". First, they will need to register their trade mark and patent in the local country. They will need to proof that there is patent infringement or trade mark infringement and request for disposal of product for imitated product. For unauthorized import, they will need to appoint a local "exclusive" distributor. In such case, the most they can do is to only provide support to their own distributed product. Parallel import is not patent infringement nor exclusive license infringement in Singapore. In parallel import there is no patent infringement. The product itself is not a counterfeit. It is not even considered violation of the distributor exclusive rights. Read here: http://www.accountlaw-tax.com.sg/Website_tlc/ws-parallel%20import.htm We must know our right and not be bullied. In patent infringement case, it is even legal to counter sue on "baseless threat" when we have the right but a party threaten us (http://www.taylorwessing.com/synapse/ip_patentinfringement.html). Btw, the IT Law course at NUS ISS is really good. It gives better picture on intellectual property law and contracts what is allowed, what is not; some essential base knowledge we need to have in this knowledge economy. It was jointly conducted by Koh Chia Ling (http://www.twobirds.com/en/our-lawyers/c/chia-ling-koh1), a brilliant lawyer I would say, who handles Anime download copyright infringement case few years back. He appears in Channel News Asia talk few days back on BitCoin. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
SRC Member solasido Posted December 9, 2014 SRC Member Share Posted December 9, 2014 Report to Singapore police as "unauthorized access" and "damaging our property". Found their website that contains the announcement: http://ecotechmarine.com/news/unauthorized-product-asia-market It is right about no warranty support or extra charges if we bring the product to them for repair. But reserving the right to rendering the device unusable, is bullsh*t, I would say. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
